The court in Utrecht found Gokmen T. guilty of opening fire on a tram in Utrecht last March, killing four people. He was sentenced to life in prison on Friday. The sentence is equal to what the Public Prosecutor demanded.

The fourth and last day of the trail against Gokmen T., suspected of killing four people in a mass shooting on a tram in Utrecht last year, had a tumultuous start. For the third time, T. was removed from the courtroom, this time for spitting at the judges and insulting them and their mothers, according to AD's live blog on the trial.

A fugitive Dutch man was arrested in Spain on Wednesday. 71-year-old Leonardus 'Lei' B. was sentenced to  life in prison by a Belgian court earlier this month for the murder of his ex-wife ten years ago, RTL Nieuws reports.

In December 2009 B. shot and killed his ex-wife Josee Widdershoven in Vucht out of frustration about their divorce. He then fled. After managing to avoid the authorities for years, the Sittard-born man was finally arrested in Calpe, Spain on Wednesday.

A 70-year-old convicted pedophile from Amsterdam was sentenced to life in prison on the Philippines. There he was convicted for sexually abusing his stepdaughters, age 10 and 14 years, the Amsterdam police announced on Facebook.

Joep M. was arrested on the Philippines in September 2015, after a tip from Amsterdam sex crime detectives. He was convicted and sentenced in April of this year.

On Wednesday the court in Bristol sentenced 48-year-old Berlinah Wallace to life in prison for pouring acid over her ex-boyfriend, Mark van Dongen from Rijsbergen, in September 2015. Wallace will be eligible for early release after 12 years in prison, AD reports.

The court in Leeuwarden sentenced brothers 33-year-old Admilson and 32-year-old Marcos R. to life in prison for two robberies that turned fatal for three victims, RTL Nieuws reports.

The two brothers from Hoogeveen were convicted of shooting and killing 55-year-old Berend Smit from Dwingeloo in November 2012, and strangling Jan and Greet Veenendaal, both 77 years old, from Exloo to death in July 2013. In both cases money was stolen after the murders.

State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice wants convicts sentenced to life in prison to be reassessed for possible release after they served 25 years. He thinks a special advisory board should determine whether the prisoner qualifies for released, the State Secretary wrote in a letter to parliament, NU.nl reports.
