Netherlands universities have made tremendous improvement in the 2013/2014 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

In this year’s rankings, a total of 12 Dutch research institutions reached the top 200 level and eight of them have made into the top 100, compared to seven universities reached the top 100 level in the 2012 ranking, according to Times Higher Education.

Leiden University has appointed a public affairs Professor, who’s job it is to give more insight into the work of lobbyists in the Netherlands. Arco Timmermans, research director of the Montesquieu Institute, will fulfill the function. It is the first time that a professor is appointed to specifically investigate lobby activities in the Netherlands.

The boy suspected to have posted a threat in the forum 4chan.org has recently visited the Dutch Embassy in Costa Rica.

A spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed a report from RTL Nieuws. The 18-year-old boy was found in a hotel in San Jose. He was broke and should have voluntarily gone to the embassy.  The suspect legally entered Costa Rica and thus could continue to stay there. According to RTL, the embassy would be willing to pay for his ticket back home. Costa Rica has no extradition treaty with the Netherlands.

An 18-year-old boy, who is staying in Costa Rica, is suspected as the one who has threatened to do a shooting at a school in Leiden. The suspect is a previous student of a high school in Leiden. The boy has not been arrested. Because he is staying abroad, it is impossible that his threat can be executed. Thus, the police can now stop securing the schools.

The police have confirmed the arrest of a minor in connection with a shooting threat at a school in Leiden.

Suspect has mental problems

The police have not given details about the arrest as the role of the suspect is not clear yet. “It is possible that he is  not the one,” said the police.

All secondary schools and MBOs in Leiden are closed on Monday because someone posted a threat of an attack on the Internet. The authorities are taking the threat seriously.

In his post, written in English, the unidentified author threatens to shoot his Dutch teacher dead 'and as many students as I can’. He says he will have a note on him as an evidence. His post includes an image of the weapon which he will use: a Colt Defender.
