A bottle of deadly poison was stolen from the Boerhaave museum on Raamsteeg in Leiden during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The police are urgently looking for the poison, Curare, but urge anyone who finds it not to touch it.

The poison was in a safe that was stolen from the museum. According to Omroep West, it is a small glass bottle with a red lid. Inside is a small black cube, a bit smaller than a sugar cube. The bottle has an old looking label that reads Curare.

His father Stephan de Wolff posted a photo of the boy's injuries on Facebook, with a call for help and to bring the issue of bullying under national attention. The post was shared nearly 40 thousand times.

Two men were sentenced to three and six years in prison for abducting a man from Rotterdam in Amstelveen in March last year. The kidnappers held the man hostage for hours, cut off part of his finger and then dumped him on the street, NOS reports.

Four young men were arrested on suspicion of gang-raping two Dutch women in a hotel in Antwerp early on Saturday morning. Three of them admitted to being in the hotel, but deny raping the young women. The fourth confessed, his lawyer told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

A houseboat on Oegstgeesterweg in Leiden is sinking due to a leak. Despite enormous effort by the fire department, the house boat can not be saved, the fire brigade said on Twitter on Monday morning. The family living in the houseboat got out unharmed, NU.nl reports.

The fire department started pumping water out of the houseboat around 5:50 a.m. on Monday. But the water put so much pressure on the houseboat that the shore anchor broke, making the houseboat unstable.

After a brief 24-hour respite, very windy weather is expected to return to the Netherlands on Thursday afternoon, causing a challenging rush hour period in Rotterdam, Leiden, Den Haag, and Maastricht. For the first time in years, the number of burglaries in the Netherlands increased in 2016. Last year a total of 64 thousand burglary claims were filed with insurers, compared to 61 thousand in 2015, according to figures from the Dutch association of insurers VNV, ANP reports.

All train traffic to and from both Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Centraal was halted Monday evening as snow continuously fell upon the region beginning just after noon. Hundreds of passengers were stranded at the airport, according to local broadcaster AT5. Large lines formed at the taxi rank there, while wait times for Uber vehicles was in the double digits.

The airport was setting up cots for people forced to sleep at the airport, broadcaster NOS reported.

A 37-year-old doctor from Leiden is suspected of sexually abusing at least three underage girls and of secretly taking videos and photos of naked patients. The court in The Hague remanded him into custody for 60 days on Wednesday, NU.nl reports.

The man worked as a temp in various GP practices. He was arrested on October 24th, after the parents of one girl pressed charges against him. "The suspicion has now ben extended with a possible second and third case", the Prosecutor said. The sexual abuse did not happen in a doctor's practice, according to the Prosecutor.

An apartment building on Valkenhorst in Leiden was evacuated just after midnight after the fire department discovered that several geysers in the building emit far too much carbon monoxide. The fire brigade was called in after a family living in the building went to hospital when they felt ill, Omroep West reports.

The fire brigade evacuated all 42 homes in the building. Around 10 people were checked by ambulance personnel. Residents were given shelter in an adjacent shopping mall.

Housing prices in the Netherlands were on average 9.7 percent higher in the third quarter than a year ago, realtors association NVM announced. "The housing market is overheated in many places, especially in the cities", NVM chairman Ger Jaarsma said to broadcaster NOS.

One of two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old man in Leiden last week, was previously sentenced to institutionalized psychiatric care. Maarten O. is known to the local care agencies and was receiving voluntary counseling at the time of the murder, the municipality of Leiden confirmed to Omroep West.

A body was found in a home on Tomatenstraat in Leiden on Sunday. Two people were arrested in connection with the discovery, the Telegraaf reported.

Very little is known about what happened as yet. On Sunday night, the police refused to comment on the identity of the victim, whether he or she was murdered or what the detainees are suspected of. Where the suspects were arrested, is also unclear.

The police are investigating.

A "scarily high" 31 percent of sushi meals that are delivered to customers' homes contain too much bacteria, according to consumers association Consumentenbond. This is caused by poor hygiene in the preparation of the meals, the association concludes after testing 160 sushi samples from 20 restaurants in five cities, NU.nl reports.

Poor hygiene standards include using dirty cutting boards and employees not washing their hands before working with the food. In many cases the delivered sushi was fresh, the Consumentenbond added.

Protesters chained and locked the front- and back doors of Islamic primary school Er Risèlèh on Stadhouderslaan in Leiden during Sunday night. A number of news sources attributed the action to anti-Islam movement Pegida. Pegida Nederland expressed support for the action on Twitter, but said that it was organized by Leiden residents, NU.nl reports

"Dutch people oppose Islamic education", was written on a pamphlet left at the school.

Traces of the potentially carcinogenic substance GenX were found in the tap water of The Hague, Zoetermeer and Leiden, water company Dunea announced on Tuesday. The company stresses that the concentrations are very low and that the drinking water is still safe, AD reports.

The police found the body of missing Korean student Youngmin Kwon in the water at the Leidse Kort Galgewater on Tuesday. Kwon was last seen alive during the early hours of Sunday morning, AD reports.

The 25-year-old student form South Korea lived and studied in Leiden. He disappeared after a night out. 

On Tuesday afternoon the police told local broadcaster Unity that a body was found in the water. The Leiden police now confirmed that it is the missing student.

The police are investigating how he died.

Amsterdam has the biggest student housing shortage in the Netherlands, according to an investigation by national student union LSVb. The union concluded that the Dutch capital has 12 thousand fewer student homes or rooms than students, Het Parool reports.

The massive shortage can partly be attributed to strict rental policy in the private sector making it hard for students to find a private home to rent in Amsterdam, combined with a shortage of available corporation housing.

Thunderstorms that pulled across the Netherlands on Thursday night caused a number of problems. Lighting strikes resulted in fires in several places, as well as some disruptions to train traffic. Rock band Bløf's concert had to be paused for around 20 minutes due to the weather, NOS reports.

Fires in Tilburg, Zwijndrecht, Weesp, Wijk bij Duurstede and Naarden are all believed to be caused by lightning strikes. Lightning is also believed to be behind a big fire in a pig company in Heeswijk-Dinther, according to Omroep Brabant. Two barns burnt down, killing around 4 thousand sows.
