Rotterdam entrepreneur Rob Lagendijk is planning a petition to make Rotterdam the new capital of the Netherlands. He wants to collect 40 thousand signatures to get this topic on the political agenda. According to a whistleblower, there is drug dealing everywhere and having sex in the bathroom is a regular activity. A barbecue at Rotterdam's city hall got somewhat out of hand on Friday night. City councilors could be heard singing karaoke late into the night, resulting in multiple noise complaints by local residents, AD reports.

"Hello Rotterdam, can you make that music and off-key karaoke even louder?",  one local resident said on Twitter. "This can't be, it is 23:41! Anyone else would already have been reprimanded or fined for noise."

Over two months after the municipal elections in March, Rotterdam still doesn't have a new city government. Coalition talks now started between the VVD, D66, GroenLinks, PvdA and ChristenUnie-SGP. Leefbaar Rotterdam, which came out as the biggest party in the city after the elections, is not part of the negotiations, NOS reports.

The six parties together have 23 seats on the municipal council, the smallest possible majority on a council with 45 seats. Previous negotiations stranded when GroenLinks, PvdA and D66 could not agree to forming a coalition with Leefbaar and VVD.

PVV leader Geert Wilders fired Géza Hegedüs as faction leader in Rotterdam on Friday after it was revealed that he expressed support for Holocaust denier David Irving in 2014. This happened just one day after , overshadowing the PVV's participation in the municipal elections in Rotterdam.

Rotterdam opened a special "neighborhood" where people who cause a lot of trouble to their neighbors will go to learn how to behave. The "Skaeve Huse" consists of 11 container homes on an industrial estate near the airport. While living there, counselors will attempt to teach people accused of being difficult residents how to behave more responsibly so that they can move back into normal neighborhoods, NOS reports.

The Rotterdam coalition of Leefbaar Rotterdam, CDA and D66 no longer has the support of a majority of city councilors as councilor Mohammed Anfal switched from Leefbaar to Islam inspired party NIDA. Party leader Nourdin el Ouali announced the switch to NRC on Monday evening. The city council will discuss the consequences of the switch in an emergency debate on Thursday. Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb is meeting party leaders to talk about it today, according to AD.

Rotterdam launched a campaign against forced marriages on Wednesday. The campaign consists of a number of posters of all kinds of people kissing, with a simple message: In the Netherlands you choose your own partner. 

Leefbaar Rotterdam alderman Ronald Schneider hung the first poster on Wednesday. "I live in Rotterdam-Zuid, where I sometimes see couples secretly holding hands against the quay wall", he said to RTV Rijnmond. "This is the Netherlands in 2017. It can not be that a girl and a boy of around 20 should still secretly hold each others and?"

The PVV is turning its attention to local governments. Next year the anti-Islam party wants to participate in municipal elections in Rotterdam, Enschede, Almelo, Twenterand and Urk, party leader Geert Wilders announced on Twitter on Saturday. The party will also participate in The Hague and Almere. 

Until now the PVV was only represented in the city councils of The Hague and Almere, according to the Volkskrant. But in December the party announced a change in strategy. The PVV wants to be part of at least five to ten municipalities per province.

The PVV hopes to take many voters from local parties in the municipal elections in 2018, leader Geert Wilders said in a interview with AD over the weekend. Many local parties aren't too worried about this strategy, Trouw reports after speaking to them.'

The PVV shares views with many local parties, Wilders said in the interview. "We already hear of people who want to change", he said. So far the far-right party was only active in The Hague and Almere. "But people want more. I notice that there is a need."

The next Rotterdam city council will be governed by a coalition of D66, CDA and nationalist party Leefbaar Rotterdam. It marks the first time Leefbaar Rotterdam has been a coalition member since the murder of popular party founder Pim Fortuyn twelve years ago.
