The PvdA faction in Amsterdam received a storm of negative reactions because of a photo posted on the party's Twitter account on Saturday. In the photo, PvdA councilor in Amsterdam Hendrik Jan Biemond is posing in a yellow burka with other burka wearing people from the LGBTQ community during Canal Pride in Amsterdam on Saturday, AD reports.

The D66, PvdA and GroenLinks wants the law to explicitly protect transgender- and intersex people against discrimination. D66 MP Vera Bergkamp, PvdA MP Keklik Yucel and GroenLinks MP Liesbeth van Tongeren submitted a legislative proposal to add that distinction to the law, the Telegraaf reports.

American news agencies are projecting that Donald Trump won the United States election. If correct, he will succeed current President Barack Obama in the White House. The inauguration is scheduled for January 20th, 2017. While PVV leader Geert Wilders is already waving the victory flags, left-wing politicians in The Hague are shocked.

"CONGRATULATIONS Donald Trump!! Your victory is historic and for all of us!" Wilders tweeted. "And we Dutch will also conquer our country back!"

The remarks made by the mayor of Cologne about the very high number of sexual assaults in the German city during New Year's lead to fierce criticism from Dutch politicians. Mayor Henriette Reker suggested that women should keep strangers "at arms length to avoid sexual harassment". Dutch Deputy Prime Minister Lodewijk Asscher calls this statement "completely the wrong signal" that creates the impression that the victims could have done something to stop it.

PvdA (Labour) MP Keklik Yucel wants an extension paid parental leave in the Netherlands to six months after the birth of a baby, of which two months would be allocated for the child's father. Yucel will raise the issue in Wednesday's parliamentary debate with Deputy Prime Minister Lodewijk Asscher.
