The book De 50 mooiste, beste en meest inspirerende Nederlandse toespraken was pulled from the market with immediate effect because only 49 of the speeches in the book are real. A speech about the mentality of the Dutch East India Company attributed to former Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, turned out to actually be a satirical column first published on left-wing activist website Doorbraak.eu in 2006, newspaper Trouw discovered.

ING Bank will be nominating former Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende to sit on the bank's supervisory board. The nomination will be made at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 8th. Along with Balkenende, the bank will also nominate Margarete Haase and Hans Wijers for positions on the board, ING announced on Thursday.

Cuts to items covered under the mandatory basic health insurance package is saving the country less money than expected, reports the Netherlands Court of Audit. Between 2007 and 2013, roughly 250 million euro was saved through the cuts, about half the amount the cabinet predicted under former Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.

Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb visits Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Bangkok, Thailand from March 8th to the 13th. Aboutaleb is scheduled to share advice on floods and climate handling in Ho Chi Minh City, speak about crisis management in Bangkok while visiting the port authorities of both, the city of Rotterdam revealed in a press release.

The head of the Dutch arm of Air France-KLM, Camiel Eurlings, resigned overnight with immediate effect. Second-in-command Pieter Elbers took over for Eurlings, who lead KLM as President and CEO for four years, according to a KLM press release.

De Telegraaf newspaper today contains a full-page ad with calls from several well-known Dutch people to end the rising anti-Semitism in The Netherlands. On the back of the newspaper, in large black lettering is written: "No excuse for anti-Semitism."

Former head of Rabobank, and architect of the Balkenender IV Cabinet Herman Wijffels, is disassociating himself from CDA's party line, and voting instead for the D66 at the European elections. He tells the BNR that he can no longer find himself in the CDA.
