Russian internet trolls tried to influence the public debate in the Netherlands and Belgium using Twitter accounts that, according to Twitter, are linked to 'trolling factory' Internet Research Agency (IRA) in St. Petersburg. These accounts posted over 900 Dutch language tweets over the past two years, NRC reports based on its own research.
The Tweede Kamer is shocked and outraged by reports from Minister Kasja Ollongren of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations that Russia and other countries are using fake news to try and influence public opinion in the Netherlands. "That fake accounts influence our democracy is life threateningly dangerous", CDA leader Sybrand Buma said to broadcaster NOS. The CDA and D66 are presenting a set of measures in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, on Wednesday to prevent this from happening.
Hillary Clinton believes that her loss in the American presidential election last year, had an influence on the Dutch parliamentary election earlier this year. At the very least, Dutch voters were more informed about things like Russia trying to influence international elections with propaganda after that happened in the United States election, she said in an interview with RTL Nieuws correspondent Erik Mouthaan.
"I think it [the U.S. election] certainly gave Dutch voters information that American voters didn't have", she said in the interview.

Ajax fans have been threatening the management and the staff members of the football club for years, according to independent research from the Volkskrant. The paper reveals that 16 people who are or were tied to Ajax spoke of a culture of intimidation created by fans of the F-side, which is the old hard core, and VAK 410, the new hard core. Most threats are not reported to the police.
