More and more Dutch hospitals remove ‘plofkip’ from te menu. Three large regional hospitals did already change to different style ckicken, six wil soon change to chicken with on the label one or two Better Life stars. This was reported by Wakker Dier.

‘Plofkip’ is a chicken who is administered a lot of antibiotics. By eating these animals, people also take these medicines in and because of that there are more resistant bacteria. This can be a threat to public health.

More than 4,500 times a year, hospital staff become victims of physical and verbal violence. In more than 200  cases, the violence is so severe that the perpetrator gets a permanent ban for accessing the hospital. Minister Edith Schippers (Health) thinks these incidents are totally unacceptable.

On a request of the AD, a third of all hospitals gave access to data about intimidation against their staff. Extrapolated to all 93 Dutch hospitals, the figures come down to 4,500 times a year, which means twelve times a day.

The Wednesday TV special “Together Against Child Cancer” has raised over 3.5 million euro (3,556,000 to be exact). A total of 711,200 symbolic stones were sold each for 5 euro. The collected money is intended for the construction of the Princess Máxima Centre in Utrecht. The amount may still grow because the campaign is not yet finished.
