The cellphone of Arjen Kamphuis, whose been , was turned on for a short time last week, the Dutch police reported based on investigation. 

The 46-year-old computer expert from Amsterdam went hiking in Norway last month. He was set to return to the Netherlands on August 22nd, but never made it back. His employer reported him missing on August 29th, according to the police. He was last seen in Bodø on August 20th.

Nijmegen's annual four day hiking event, the Vierdaagse, kicked off on Tuesday morning. The first hikers started their journey at 4:00 a.m. and by 6:30 a.m. over half of the 42,036 participants were on the way, the Volkskrant reports.

This is the 101st edition of the Nijmegen Vierdaagse, which ends in the Nijmegen city center on Friday. Hikers from no less than 67 countries are participating this year. The youngest participant is 11-year-old Maud Molemans from Nijmegen, the oldest is 94-year-old Herman Dubie from Amsterdam. This is the Amsterdam man's 20th Vierdaagse.

On Monday the Netherlands royal hiking federation KWBN advised schools and other organizations to cancel the first night of the annual four evening marches should the weather make it necessary. Meteorological institute KNMI for the entire country for Monday and the KWBN calls on participants not to take any risks, NU.nl reports.

Remains found in Golden Bay, New Zealand were positively identified as the body of Dutch tourist Ken Boogers, who went missing in the country in March, reports the Nelson Mail. Boogers disappeared after taking a hike from the camp where he was staying.

The parents of the missing Dutch tourist Ken Boogers are heading to New Zealand on Tuesday to assist the local police in their search operation. Boogers disappeared on Saturday after a walk along the coast. His father Peet retains hope for the good outcome, wrote Omroep Brabant.
