Action group Kick Out Zwarte Piet is planning to protest in twelve different cities in November against the use of blackface makeup and costuming often adorned by white actors portraying Sinterklaas's helper. The activists consider Zwarte Piet in his traditional form a racist stereotype. On Thursday there were protests in Apeldoorn and Deventer calling for Zwarte Piet to remain in the blackface costume seen mainly over the last hundred years, and which some say is adhering to Dutch tradition.
Ergun S., the man suspected of killing cleaners Gina and Marinus in the Pathe cinema in Groningen on Saturday, stalked his ex-girlfriend for years, she said to newspaper AD. She reported him to the police multiple times. "But the police always say that they are only texts, that they cannot prove that he is really after me", she said.
The police received over 200 tips regarding the murders of couple Gina (55) and Marinus (56) at a Pathe cinema in Groningen on Saturday, the police said on Twitter. The 33-year-old man wanted in connection with a double homicide at a Groningen movie theater on Saturday was arrested at a gas station along the Hoendiep on the city's west side Sunday morning. Gunshots were fired during the arrest, police said, and the suspect, Ergün S. was injured.

Three people sustained minor injuries in a stabbing on a terrace on Grote Markt in Groningen on Wednesday evening. A 67-year-old Groningen man was arrested and a weapon was confiscated, the Groningen police said the following morning.
