Two boys with behavioral problems managed to slip away during school hours to go swimming, because of insufficient supervision by the staff of a school and a youth care institution in Zetten in Gelderland, three inspectorates concluded after investigation. As a result, one of the boys drowned in the Rhine river in May last year, NOS reports.

Several children in the Gelderland village of Kootwijkerbroek were confronted by a killer clown, who is sometimes naked, over the past days. A number of schools in the neighborhood warned parents not to let their children walk to school or home alone, according to Omroep Gelderland.

Two police officers were assaulted at a Carnival party in Vaassen, Gelderland during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Two men from neighboring Emst were arrested, ANP reports.

A 14-year-old boy was convicted and sentenced to one year in a youth detention facility for his role in the death of Romy Nieuwburg, a girl his age from Hoevelaken. The teen boy was also ordered to spend mandatory time in a psychiatric facility, which can be extended to a maximum of seven years.

A 64-year-old pastor of the PKN church in the Gelderland village of Rhenoy, was attacked in her church on Tuesday. The seriously injured woman was found lying in a pool of blood in the church on Dorpstraat and rushed to the hospital, NOS reports.

An Apache helicopter crashed into an electricity transmission tower and high-voltage cables Monday evening, before making an emergency landing near Zoelmond, Gelderland. Neither of the two crew members onboard were injuries in the incident, nor were there any injuries on the ground.

The city of Arnhem will ban diesel cars produced before 2004 form the city center by January 1st, 2019 at the latest, the college of mayor and aldermen decided. This decision was met with fierce criticism from the royal Netherlands' automobile club KNAC.
"The air in the city center is too dirty", Arnhem's mobility alderman Geert Ritsema explained, according to De Gelderlander. "Residents of the city center on average live over one year shorter due to the poor air. We have to take our responsibility and act now."
