As election day rolled on into Wednesday night, political leaders in the Netherlands came out of the woodwork to address their parties and give their reactions to early exit polling. The polls showed drops in support for the coalition parties VVD and PvdA, as well as a surprise slide for anti-Islam PVV, with significant gains for D66, and more modest gains for the SP and the conservative Christian alliance CU/SGP.

Ruling coalition party VVD is expected to lose four of its 16 senate seats, and coalition partner PvdA will likely lose six of its 14 seats, according to exit polling conducted by Ipsos and broadcast on NOS. The two parties hold a thin majority in the Tweede Kamer lower house of parliament, and would now need committed legislative partners to carry 33 seats in the Eerste Kamer upper house.

The son of PVV politician Marjolein Faber managed the PVV's parliamentary website on behalf of the next PVV senate leader, RTL reports. Earlier, Faber was discredited for hiring her son to work on PVV Gelderland's website, but party leader Geert Wilders never forced her to resign.

PVV leader Geert Wilders is demanding police protection for his party’s candidates, following a series of vandalism attacks on their homes.

The most recent attack was on Friday at the house of candidate Jake Owen Raats who is running as nr 12 on PVV’s slate in Etten Leur. Someone threw a stone through a window at the 20-year—old student’s home. “I saw three boys speeding away on their bikes,” Raats told Volkskrant newspaper.

Frisian PVV candidate Erna Cohen awoke Saturday morning to find her house, car, garden wall and the street defaced with bold, red and green graffiti accusing her of being anti-Islam, the Telegraaf reported. The house in Paesens was tagged with “PVV fascists,” while the street in front of her home says “Here resides Muslim haters” with an arrow pointing to the home.

Marjolein Faber became the leader of the PVV in the First Chamber elections. Faber has been in the Senate since 2011 and has been faction chairman since June last year. She is also the faction leader in the Provincial Council of Gelderland and is known as an anti-Islamist.

The PVV departments in Flevoland, Zeeland, Noord-Brabant, Zuid-Holland, and Noord-Holland have removed the headscarf ban for civil servants from their election programs. In 2011 they still stated that officials, State members and deputies were not welcome in the Province House if they arrive with a headscarf. Now that point has disappeared.

For the third time in since late December a PVV party official resigned from the party. Jan Kerkhoff, a provincial parliamentarian in North-Brabant, dropped out of the regional section of PVV because of his dissatisfaction with the party line and his dissatisfaction with party leader Anti-Islamist Geert Wilders.

The Belgian police shot two armed jihadists dead and arrested one in a Belgian city of Verviers late Thursday night. The armed men were part of a network which partly consists of returned rebel fighters from the Syrian Civil War. They were planning on attacking police stations and courthouses, according to Belgian police.
