The Netherlands is not sufficiently prepared to deal with the consequences of a long-term gas shortage, according to a crisis plan from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate that EenVandaag got hold of by appealing to the freedom of information act.

The crisis plan describes possible steps the Netherlands can take if gas extraction in Groningen has to be halted sooner than planned, for example due to a massive earthquake, and if the country can't get enough gas from abroad to meet the demand. The plan dates from January 2018.

During the government formation, documents were drawn up about the controversial abolition of the dividend tax - tax companies pay on profits paid out to shareholders, the Ministry of Finance confirmed to Trouw. Previously Prime Minster Mark Rutte said that the party leaders do not recall the existence of such documents, NU.nl reports.

The Ministry of Finances refuses to make the documents public, Trouw writes.

The Ministry of Security and Justice does not have to disclose information about how it handled the direct aftermath of the MH17 disaster, the Council of State ruled on Wednesday. This involves reports of meetings held by various ministers after the Malaysia Airlines flight was shot down over eastern Ukraine in 2014. In the weeks after the disaster, ministers regularly met in a crisis committee to discuss the aftermath, NU.nl reports.

A court forced the Ministry of Security and Justice to publish more documents on the disaster with flight MH17 thanks to a joint call on the Freedom of Information Act by broadcasters NOS and RTL Nieuws and the Volkskrant. A number of new details were revealed, including that the Dutch government assumed from the first that Russian separatists were behind the downing of the plane.

Three Dutch news agencies are taking the Ministry of Security and Justice to court, demanding that the government release more information about the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 disaster. On Tuesday the Administrative Court in Utrecht will address arguments in the case, jointly filed by the Volkskrant newspaper, and broadcasters NOS and RTL Nieuws.

Twenty police officials earned higher salaries than the Security and Justice Minister in 2014. The biggest earner was Bernard Welten. He earned 258,994 euros, the Justice Minister earned 177,410 euros, Dutch newspaper AD reports based on information received through the Freedom of Information Act.
