Monday will be a chaotic day for people who commute to work by public transport. NS announced that it will join an early morning strike held by city- and regional public transit companies, AD reports.

The public transit companies are protesting for freezing the retirement age at 66. For that reason they will strike from 6:00 a.m. for 66 minutes, trade union CNV Vakmensen said. The strike will likely also cause delays after its end.

Public transit workers in Amsterdam will strike for part of Monday, March 18th, as part of a national action day for better pensions, trade unions CNV, VCP and FNV announced. Amsterdam public transit company GVB confirmed the strike to Het Parool.

Union FNV received 60 reports in two weeks' time about unsafe working conditions at asylum centers across the Netherlands. Most of the reports concerned daily violent incidents, both among the residents and towards the staff of the asylum centers. The union is shocked and calls for immediate intervention, ANP reports.

Dutch airline KLM will investigate whether individual employees were exposed to carcinogenic chromium 6, the company said in response to a demand for clarity from trade union FNV. The involved employees worked at the Regional Jet Center at Schiphol where airplanes of Martinair and Cityhopper, among others, were sanded, ANP reports.

This happened after the leak of a report on a meeting about a joint service office for Maastricht, Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen. Deliveroo wrongly classifies its delivery workers as freelancers, a Dutch court ruled on Tuesday in two cases filed by union FNV. There is an employment contract, which means that deliverers should be considered employees and be covered by the collective bargaining agreement for professional goods transport, the court ruled, NU.nl reports.

The court ruled that delivery workers can now claim employment and that Deliveroo must apply the collective bargaining agreement retroactively. Deliveroo announced that it will appeal against the ruling.

Ryanair can't simply dismiss its staff that worked from its Eindhoven base for the time being, benefits agency UWV concluded after assessing a collective dismissal request submitted by the Irish budget airline, unions VNV and FNV announced.

Trade union FNV is not allowed to organize any strikes at PostNL in the coming weeks, the court in The Hague ruled in summary proceedings filed by the Dutch postal service, NOS reports.

PostNL argued that strikes during the busy Christmas period would cause "disproportionate damage and risks". Strikes would result in millions of euros of damages and severely affect customers waiting for mail and parcels, according to the company.

PostNL is going to court to try and ban a Christmas strike announced by trade union FNV. The Dutch postal service believes that a strike in the Christmas period - PostNL's busiest period of the year - will cause disproportionate damage to customers and PostNL itself, AD reports.

Public transit companies in the Netherlands are concerned about how they will have to enforce the impending ban on face-covering clothing. Dutch transport association KNV foresees practical problems in refusing people wearing burkas and similar items, secretary Arjan Vaandrager said to AD.

"We are dependent on the police for enforcement", Vaandrager said to the newspaper. "When police do not show up it can have consequences for the safety of the public transit staff."

Sixteen Ryanair cabin crew workers at Eindhoven Airport have been fired by the Irish budget airline, according to union FNV. According to the airline, these workers were still in their trial period, which lasts a year according to Irish employment law, NOS reports.

Irish budget airline Ryanair plans to go through with the closure of its base at Eindhoven Airport on November 5th. This is despite the fact that the court in The Hague ruled on Thursday that the airline made the decision to close the base on unlawful grounds and has to forgo the closure, NOS reports.

A growing group of working Dutch live in poverty, social and cultural planning office SCP said in a report published on Wednesday. In 2014 a total of 4.6 percent of Dutch workers, or 320 thousand people, lived below the poverty line, compared to 3.1 percent in 2001. Of these working poor, 175 thousand are employed and 145 thousand are self-employed, ANP reports.

Pilots union VNV is taking Ryanair to court for using so-called strike breakers to execute flights during the pilots strike on Friday. Despite a court previously banning the Irish budget airline from using other pilots during the strike, two Ryanair flights took off from Eindhoven Airport on Friday morning, NU.nl reports.

Schiphol is closing the information desks at the airport next year, resulting in a group of 60 desk staff losing their jobs. The employees were informed about this by Schiphol's operations director Miriam Hoekstra on Thursday evening, the airport confirmed to the Telegraaf.

The desks will close in phases starting in April next year. Schiphol plans to deploy new communication channels. "Schiphol's customer research shows that travelers want to make more use of online channels and chat to get information", an airport spokesperson said to the newspaper.

A planned strike by security workers at Schiphol airport next week, has been canceled, trade union De Unie reports. Last night the unions and security companies reached a principle collective bargaining agreement for the 4 thousand security workers at the Amsterdam airport, the union said, AD reports.

Schiphol will try to stop a security guard strike at the airport next week Tuesday in court "We want to do everything possible to ensure that passengers do not suffer", a spokesperson for the airport said to RTL Nieuws.

Security guards plan to strike for 24 hours on Tuesday, September 4th. The strike would affect some 200 thousand travelers. "Everyone who flies has to go through the security check. If that is not possible, you can't fly", the Schiphol spokesperson said.

Unions FNV and CNV are calling on security officers at Schiphol Airport to strike for 24 hours on September 4th. Strikes will also be held at other locations, but the unions have not yet said where, NOS reports.

"Schiphol has already received a notice from us because a 24 hour strike has consequences for the airport and air traffic", Mohamed Gafki of FNV said, according to the broadcaster. "Agreements can now be made to ensure that things go smoothly. Passengers can be informed in a timely manner, tickets can be rebooked, flights can be canceled, and so on."
