Despite announced layoffs, employment at Tata Steel Nederland in IJmuiden "in outline" will be guaranteed until October 2021, the management of the metal group in the Netherlands wrote in a letter to trade union FNV, which is in the hands of the Telegraaf. The management of Tata Steel Nederland says it will adhere to previously made agreements with the trade unions, but adds that eventual layoffs are inevitable.

Nine out of ten hospitals in the Netherlands will be taking part in a strike for a better collective labor agreement on November 20th. A total of 82 hospitals and rehabilitation centers responded to the trade unions' call to strike. Employees of university hospitals will not participate because they fall under a different collective agreement, NU.nl reports.

KLM ground crew personnel at Schiphol will strike for the third time in two weeks on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutch airline canceled 12 European return flights as a precaution and expects that the strike will result in delays. KLM ground crew workers are on strike between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. this morning. During that time, KLM will take no hold baggage on board. The airline also canceled a total of 16 flights - nine departures and seven arrivals. All canceled flights are flights within Europe, according to flight information from Schiphol.

KLM ground crew employees will strike again on Wednesday, union FNV announced. Like Monday, they will not perform their duties between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

On Monday, around 500 workers of the Dutch airline's ground crew went on strike. This resulted in KLM having to cancel a total of 67 flights, only 11 of which the airline announced in advance.

KLM canceled a total of 11 departures and 10 arrivals at Schiphol airport on Monday due to a strike by the Dutch airline's ground crew. All flights are within Europe. 

The strike is happening between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. due to a conflict over a collective bargaining agreement. Union FNV wants an 8 percent wage increase over two years, a less flexible roster for ground crew, and for KLM to give more of its ground crew employees a permanent contract, according to NU.n. During negotiations, KLM did not agree to any of these demands.

Schiphol Airport security workers will be allowed to walk off the job in rotation on Sunday, a court in Haarlem ruled on Friday. Airport officials and unionized private security workers faced off on the use of labor actions to voice the FNV union’s concerns about any new security firms contracted by the airport.

Starting at 7:30 a.m. half of the workers screening passengers and their hand luggage in any given line will stop working every 30 minutes. This will continue over the course of twelve hours.

ProRail wants to ban smoking at all train stations in the Netherlands. If the rail manager has its way, all smoking zones will disappear at the some 400 stations within the next two years, a spokesperson said to the Telegraaf.

ProRail receives many complaints from travelers who are bothered by smokers, the spokesperson said. The company therefore does not want to wait for a national smoking ban. "That's why we take the lead ourselves." The rail manager is currently working on convincing all parties involved to support the plan.

From this month, many working 21-year-olds will earn hundreds of euros more. Starting today, 21-year-olds no longer fall under the lower youth minimum wage, but will instead be entitled to the adult minimum wage. This means a salary bump from 1,373 euros per month to 1,636 euros per month, according to the government's website.

The Climate Agreement that the Dutch government is presenting on Friday afternoon is insufficient for fair and effective climate policy, according to environmental organizations Greenpeace and Milieudefensie and trade union FNV. A number of Dutch universities and colleges plan to continue with their exams and lectures as usual on Tuesday, despite a nationwide strike in public transport. National students' union LSVb is furious that students may be forced to miss important lectures or exams through something that is completely out of their control. "We think it's really absurd", a spokesperson for LSVb said to NOS.

Regional public transit companies announced that they will join employees of NS and the city transporters in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague in a strike for a better pension system on May 28th. That means that nearly all public transit in the Netherlands will be shut down next week Tuesday, union FNV announced. Labour party PvdA expressed support for the strike.

A massive 24-hour strike by public transportation workers was scheduled by trade union FNV. The labor protest will affect the national railway firm NS, as well as public transit in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Den Haag, the three biggest cities in the Netherlands, FNV revealed on Wednesday.

The strike is set for May 28, and could include regional transportation workers as well, though that will be announced in the future. The labour union also called on workers in other sectors to strike on May 29.
