Two people were wounded Friday morning in Rotterdam when a forceful explosion in a flat blew out the apartment’s facade. A gas leak led to the explosion on Vignolastraat, according to the regional emergency services office.

It was not immediately clear if the cause of the gas leak was intentional or accidental. Police were investigating for any criminality or negligence.

At least one person was killed in a head-on collision on the A12 highway towards Arnhem on Friday morning. The accident was very likely caused by a wrong way driver, the police said on Twitter at around 6:30 a.m.

One person was found dead and nine other were hurt when two vehicles collided at an intersection in Middenmeer, Noord-Holland around 5:35 a.m on Tuesday. Police later confirmed that a second person died as a result of their injuries.

The accident between a darker colored Opel five-door car and a passenger van took place just after sunrise on the N240. Both of those who died were among the nine people traveling inside the van which, police told broadcaster NOS, was carrying Eastern European migrant workers. One of those hurt was driving the Opel.

A large fire broke out at the former nuclear power plant in Dodewaard on Thursday. Emergency services are at the scene en mass. There is no risk of radioactive radiation being released, but people should still keep their distance so that the emergency services can do their jobs, a spokesperson for the local security region said to newspaper AD.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte paid a visit to the memorial site for five drowned water sports enthusiasts in Scheveningen on Tuesday evening, one day after they drowned. It was a short, unofficial visit, his spokesperson said to RTL Nieuws. "He came by to show his support and commitment."

An apartment fire in the early morning hours of Tuesday left two people dead and two others injured in Landgraaf. The two dead bodies had not been identified by Tuesday afternoon, and a police and forensic investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.

It started at about 1:30 a.m. at an apartment complex on the Lindestraat, police said in a statement. Ambulances and police officers were dispatched to the scene as firefighters tackled the flames. The first responders evacuated apartments in the three-story building and searched for survivors.

The five water sports enthusiasts whose bodies were retrieved off the coast of Scheveningen were men from The Hague and Delft between the ages of 22 and 38, the police and Johan Remkes, the acting mayor in The Hague, confirmed at a grim press conference on Tuesday. A 40-year-old man who was rescued from the choppy water on Monday evening was treated in a hospital, and later released.

Search and rescue crews found the bodies of three water sports enthusiasts in the North Sea near Scheveningen on Tuesday morning. A total of five people in all have died as a result of the tragic events off the Dutch coast near The Hague on Monday and Tuesday. It was unclear if anyone else was missing, with rescue workers finding more surfboards than victims.

A massive fire broke out at a Mission Foods bakery on Industrieweg in Roermond on Wednesday before 6:30 a.m. Emergency services are at the scene in large numbers. Due to a risk of explosion, first responders evacuated a radius of 400 meters around the factory.

The fire started in a building where tortillas are made, according to 1Limburg. Multiple employees were in the building at the time, but they all managed to get outside without being injured.

A 39-year-old truck driver from Romania was arrested after 25 stowaways were found hiding in the refrigerated container of his truck on board a ferry to England on Tuesday. He is in custody on suspicion of human trafficking while the police investigate whether he was aware of the people hiding in his truck, a police spokesperson said to NU.nl.

A person set themself on fire in front of the court in Roermond on Friday morning. Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, are at the scene. 

The police closed down Willem II Singel, where the incident happened. The extent of the person's injuries is not known, but according to the police, they are conscious and able to communicate.

Police officers are speaking to witnesses and investigating what happened. Victim Support was called in for witnesses who need it.

From today, Advanced Mobile Location (AML) is also available to iPhone users with the latest operating system - iOS13 - installed on their phones. AML automatically sends your location to the emergency services if you call emergency number 112. 

According to the police, AML helps emergency services respond to citizens in need faster and more efficiently. The service was introduced for Android phones with operating system version 4.0 or later in March of this year.

A man was shot and killed in Buitenveldert in Amsterdam on Wednesday morning. Het Parool and De Telegraaf identify the victim as Derk Wiersum, the lawyer that represented key witness Nabil B. A police officer confirmed this in an interview with AT5, adding that the 44-year-old lawyer lived on Imstenrade where the shooting happened.

Two people were killed and three others were hurt Friday morning when a van collided with a signpost along the A73 highway. No other vehicles were involved in the rush hour crash which took place at 8:10 a.m., according to local media outlet 1Limburg.

Authorities are trying to figure out how the vehicle ended up on the outside of the guardrail that borders the highway’s shoulder. There, the vehicle collided with the structure announcing the approaching exit for Belfeld, Tegelen, Nettetal, and parts of Venlo.

Sixteen people were injured in a serious traffic accident involving three passenger cars and a van on the N256 near Wilhelminadorp in Zeeland on Thursday afternoon. A few people were seriously injured, including one child, NU.nl reports.

The accident happened at around 3:45 p.m. According to Omroep Zeeland, at least one car had German license plates. A fire broke out in one of the involved cars, and a wounded passenger was trapped inside, the broadcaster writes.

The police considered the chance of this situation occurring to be minimal, Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security wrote in a letter to parliament. A third person died during the outage. The person went into cardiac arrest in The Hague and emergency services took longer than usual to reach them, NOS reports.

A resuscitation in a bar in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel escalated into a brawl on Saturday when two drunken men turned against the first responders. A 40-year-old man from Nieuwerkerk and a 41-year-old man from Fijnaart were arrested. The man who needed resuscitation, a 64-year-old man from Fijnaart, died at the scene, Omroep West reports.

A woman from Breda died on Monday afternoon while emergency number 1-1-2 was unavailable due to an outage at telecom company KPN. Her family tried to call the emergency number when she became unwell at home, but could not get through, local safety office Veiligheidsregio Zeeland-West-Brabant and ambulance service RAV Brabant Midden-West-Noord confirmed to RTL Nieuws.

A 7-year-old boy drowned in a pond in the Overijssel village of Overdinkel on Tuesday evening. First responders tried to resuscitate the child, but it was to no avail.

Emergency services responded to the pond on Elferinksweg just after 9:00 p.m. after receiving a report of a drowning, AD reports. The boy was taken out of the water and paramedics tried to revive him. But it was too late. He died at at the scene.

How the boy ended up in the water is not clear.

For over three hours on Monday, emergency number 1-1-2 was unreachable due to an outage at telecom company KPN. The cause of the outage is still under investigation, but it was definitely not a hack, according to Joost Farwerck of the KPN Board of Management. Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security summoned the company for an explanation on Tuesday, NOS reports.
