People caught driving while intoxicated will lose their driver's license faster according in a new legislative proposal Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security presented. The bill also states that people caught driving with their license suspended or revoked, will face prison, NOS reports.

The number of traffic incidents involving laughing gas is skyrocketing, the Dutch police said in a statement. "We see people making dangerous maneuvers in traffic because they are filling up a balloon or have one in the mouth", police inspector Paul Broer said. "Even thought the effect of laughing gas is short-lived, it has a direct effect on driving ability."

A minor girl pelted police officers with fast food and a milkshake while they were trying to arrest her 35-year-old mother at the McDrive in Oldenzaal in Twente. The woman was drunk behind the wheel and resisted arrest, the Oldenzaal police said on Facebook.

Two police officers were seriously injured in an accident on the A2 highway between Waardenburg and Zaltbommel on Monday night. The accident happened while the police were helping a motorist with car troubles, De Gelderlander reports.

The police responded to a report of people pushing a car on the highway around 10:00 p.m. Two lanes were closed and the police parked their car across the lanes to block them. The broken car was loaded onto a tow truck and taken away.

The police arrested a 26-year-old taxi driver in a parking garage on Amstelstraat in Amsterdam on Sunday morning. The man had a firearm in his possession, was under the influence of alcohol, and did not have a valid driver's license, Het Parool reports.

Patrolling police officers heard shouts coming from the parking garage at around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and went to check it out. When they saw the taxi driver standing there with a firearm on him, the man was immediately arrested. One of the cops was slightly injured in the arrest.

Two cyclists were killed in a collision with a drunk driver on the corner of Van De Spiegelstraat and Kloetingseweg in Goes early on Sunday morning. The motorist, a 19-year-old man from Kloetinge, was arrested shortly after the accident. A breathalyzer test showed that he was under the influence of alcohol, the police said in a statement.

Six Amsterdam taxi drivers were arrested during the early hours of Sunday morning for driving under the influence of drugs. The police had a total of 55 taxi drivers take a drug test. The six arrested drivers were taken to a police station for a blood test, NOS reports.

The blood samples were sent to the Netherlands Forensic Institute to confirm whether the drivers were really under the influence of drugs. What drugs they are suspected of using, was not disclosed.

A couple from Houten was killed in a serious accident on the A44 near Nieuw-Vennep on Saturday. A third person was seriously hurt. The man suspected of causing the accident, a 32-year-old man from Oestgeest, was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time. He fled the scene of the accident on foot, but was later caught by the police.

A groom missed his wedding on Thursday because he was arrested for drunk driving in the Zuid-Holland town of Leiderdorp early on Thursday morning. A brief but wild chase preceded his arrest, the Leiden-Noord police said on Facebook.

The police tried to pull the man's car over for a traffic check. "He thought differently about that and sped away", the police said. There was a short and wild chase, after which the man jumped out of the car and ran into the gardens on Maria van Hongarijelaan - leaving his future wife behind in the car.

A car crashed into a snack bar on Kruidenhof in Diemen during a police chase on Wednesday evening. The car came to a halt inside the store. Three people were injured, the police said on Twitter.

One of the injured is the 26-year-old driver of the car, the police said to AT5. He was arrested. The other two injured were inside the snack bar when the car crashed into it. They were treated by paramedics at the scene and did not have to go to hospital.

The driver of a stolen car crashed into two police cars while being chased through Tilburg on Wednesday evening. He also tried to hit a motorcycle officer with the car. The chase ended when the car thief hit a tree. The 28-year-old man from Tilburg was arrested, Brabants Dagblad reports.

The police chased the man through Tilburg Zuid. The chase ended at the junction Ringbaan Zuid and Winkler Prinsstraat. Officers had to use pepper spray on the man before being able to arrest him. The suspect was taken to a police station and the stolen car was confiscated.

A police officer sustained minor injuries when a drunk driver attempted to flee from him in the Gelderland village of Eck en Wiel during the early hours of Monday morning. The officer was holding on to the man's car when he tried to speed away and was dragged for 10 to 15 meters, ANP reports.

This happened after a breathalyzer test showed that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol. The motorist was easy to trace, because the officer still had his driver's license.

The 34-year-old man was arrested at his home in Lienden on Monday morning.

A 30-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested on Saturday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested at a police station in Zwolle, where he drove to pick up a friend who had also been arrested for drunk driving.

The Amsterdam man "forgot" that he was over the limit himself, the police said according to NU.nl. "He could also visit the police station after a short ride in his car."

The man's 39-year-old friend was arrested during the early hours of Saturday morning. He was under the influence and driving without a license.

A passenger saw an Arriva bus driver smoking a joint shortly before driving his bus from Tilburg station on Sunday evening. Passenger Rory Jonkergouw reported this to Arriva. The company takes the incident seriously and is investigating what happened, NOS reports.

Jonkergouw told Omroep Brabant that the bus driver quickly turned away when he saw him coming. "But there is no doubt about it." According to him, the bus driver took a lot of risks. "He drove over two lanes at once and very fast around turns. Then he knocked down several pylons that were on the road for work."

A 55-year-old man riding a disability vehicle - an electric three wheeled bike - was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The police arrested a 24-year-old man from Hoeven on Sunday.

The court in The Hague sentenced Daniel C. to six years in prisonfor crashing his car into a gas station in Gouda in September last year. The court found C. guilty of arson, attempted manslauhter, destruction and driving under the influence. He was not given any institutionalized psychiatric treatment, because he refused to cooperate with an examination, ANP reports.

The sentence is equal to what the Public Prosecutor demanded.

The elderly man was rushed to hospital in critical condition. He died during the course of the day, AD reports.

A Tesla crashed through the wall of a home on 1e Brandenburgerweg in Bilthoven during a police chase early on Friday morning. The home's facade sustained a lot of damage. The fire department is investigating the home to assess the risk of collapse, AD reports.

There were four people in the electric car. According to the police, the driver ignored instructions to pull over and there was a short chase. How the accident happened is still unclear. The police are investigating.

From July 1st a new law will be implemented in the Netherlands that will allow the Dutch police to use saliva tests to check whether motorists are under the influence of drugs. The police will use the saliva test to quickly check for drug use, after which a proper blood test will be done which will be checked by the Netherlands Forensic Institute, RTL Nieuws reports.
