Nothing was found in the search for Willeke Dost, a then 15-year-old girl who disappeared from her foster parents' farm in Koekange in 1992. On Monday the police searched and dug in two places in the vicinity of the farm, but found nothing.
Alderman Jan Zwiers of the municipality of Coevorden in Drenthe was assaulted by a resident of a caravan camp in the village of Steenwijksmoer on Wednesday. The alderman walked away with a black eye, broken glasses and torn pants, RTL Nieuws reports.
Zwiers visited Steenwijksmoer to talk to residents of the village about the caravan camp. The residents complained that residents of the camp create a lot of waste. The alderman also wanted to talk to the people living in the camp. Once there, he was attacked by the man.
The government and the provinces of Groningen, Drenthe, Friesland and Gelderland will sign a covenant this week that will make Nedersaksisch an official, independent and full part of the Dutch language. In the covenant the government promises to protect and promote Nedersaksisch, known as Low Saxon in English, NOS reports.
Low Saxon is spoken in Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, the northeast Veluwe, the Achterhoek and in Oost- and Weststellingwerf. The official recognition comes with money for language projects, and for schools that want to promote a dialect in Lower Saxon.
An increasing number of cranes are nesting and breeding in the Netherlands, according to bird protection organization Vogelbescherming. This year a record number of 32 breeding pairs were counted, 10 more than last year and four times as many as in 2014.
Most cranes were spotted in Drenthe and Friesland as in previous years. But this year cranes were also found breeding in Noord-Brabant and Limburg for the first time. Twelve of the 32 breeding pairs actually hatched chicks.

Four campsites were evacuated due to a large forest fire in the Drenthe town of Wateren on Tuesday afternoon. Around 75 hectares of heathland burned down. The fire department got the fire under control around 9:00 p.m., but some 150 firefighters worked throughout the night to extinguish it completely, RTL Nieuws reports
Public health institute RIVM again implemented the National Heat Plan for Limburg, Noord-Brabant, Gelderland, Utrecht, Overijssel and Drenthe. Temperatures in these parts of the country will climb to between 30 and 35 degrees in the coming days, and minimums will not drop much below 20 degrees, according to meteorological institute KNMI.

A small earthquake, registering 2.0 on the Richter scale, hit the Drenthe village of Dalen on Tuesday morning. The quake happened at a depth of three kilometers, and was so light that many people did not even notice it, RTV Drenthe reports.

A car crashed into a tree during a police chase in Foxwolde in Drenthe around 5:00 a.m. on Monday. The vehicle caught fire. Three people were injured, NU.nl reports.
The 23-year-old driver and a passenger were seriously injured. A third person sustained minor injuries.
Around 4:00 a.m. the police received a report that the car had been stolen. When officers spotted the car, they gave chase. The driver almost immediately collided with a tree, causing the car to catch fire.
An Amsterdam school group, who is spending a few days in the Drenthe town of Fluitenberg for a school trip, forgot two pupils at recreation lake Plan Schoonhoven in Hollandscheveld after spending the day there on Thursday, RTV Drenthe reports.
The two boys went to buy some fries. When they arrived at the parking lot around 6:30 p.m., their classmates had already left for Fluitenberg by bus.
Employees called the campground where the kids are staying, and a teacher came to pick the two stragglers up after 20 minutes.

A wolf has repeatedly been spotted in nature reserves in central Drenthe over the past months. According to forestry association Staatsbosbeheer, this could be a sign that the animal may be settling down in the Netherlands. Though this will only be confirmed if every sighting was the same wolf, and if it stays in the same area for more than six months.
Over the past decades there's been a "dramatic" decline in the number of ground beetles and moths in two nature reserves in the Netherlands, according to Natuurmonumenten. The number of ground beetles declined by 72 percent in Wijster in Drenthe over the past 22 years, and the number of moths by 54 percent in Kaaistoep in Noord-Brabant over the past 20 years, NU.nl reports.
Heavy rains caused many problems in large parts of northern Netherlands on Sunday night. On Twitter local residents complained about flooded streets and buildings, and even water streaming out of the toilet.

Grid managers Tennet and Enexis want no new solar parks to be built in Groningen and northern Drenthe for the time being. The electricity grid there does not have sufficient capacity to process the energy from any new solar parks, according to the companies, NOS reports.

The police are searching for 33-year-old Karel Haan from the province of Groningen, who went missing on Monday night.
The Groningen man has no fixed place of residents. He is originally from Oude Pekela, but in the days before his disappearance he had been staying Odoornerveen in Drenthe. He had an appointment in Hoogeveen on Monday night, but never made it that far. Haan's mother reported him missing around midnight.

A train crashed into a car in the Drenthe town of Echten on Thursday morning. The motorist was killed in the accident. No one in the train was injured, the Drenthe police said on Twitter.

A video showing nude visitors to sauna SpaWell in Peize, Drenthe was found on popular porn site Xhamster. The video, which shows visitors showering, was uploaded to the site four years ago, Groningen blog Sikkom discovered.
Towels clearly showing the sauna's name can be seen in the video. It seems that it was recorded by a visitor who hid the camera in a bag. The video starts with the filmer directing the camera at the showering visitors, and the sound of a zipper can be heard.
The majority of primary schools in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe are closed today as around 6 thousand teachers go on strike for higher salaries and lower workloads. This is the first of a relay strike, starting today in the North. On March 14th primary school teachers in Flevoland, Utrecht, and Noord-Holland will strike, combined with a demonstration in Amsterdam, NOS reports.
The strikes are supported by the PO-Front, a joint action group consisting of trade unions, school leaders and managers.

A heavily explosive firework caused the death of a 39-year-old man in Swifterbant, Flevoland on Saturday afternoon. Police suspect, but have not confirmed, that the explosive was illegal, a representative told newswire ANP.
The man was killed in front of at least one of his children, a teenaged neighbor, Damian, told De Telegraaf. "At first I thought he was unconscious, but that was not the case," he said, calling the victim "Jaap".
