A 7-year-old boy died on Monday after being attacked by a cow on small campsite De Koehoorn in the Zeeland village of Meliskerke, the police said on Twitter.

Emergency services responded to the campsite, which is located on a farm, en masse. But their attempts to save the boy was in vain. He died at the scene. Bystanders were offered victim assistance.

After roaming the woods of the small Overijssel town of Lettele for nearly two months, cow Hermien was finally caught on Sunday night. She was anesthetized by veterinarians and transported to a rest home for cows who no longer produce, a spokesperson for owner Herman Jansen said to RTL Nieuws.

Hermien caused danger on the road over the past days, so it was necessary to intervene.

A cow managed to escape on her way to the butcher and has been on the run in the small town of Lettele for six weeks. So far all of the multiple attempts to catch or kill the animal have been unsuccessful, the cow's owner said to newspaper AD.

According to the farmer, the cow and one of her siblings escaped last year when they were being transported to the butcher. A veterinarian managed to hit the younger cow with three anesthetic darts, after which she could be driven into the cattle wagon.

A 66-year-old woman from Doesburg was rushed and injured by a Scottish Highlander cow while walking in the Posbank nature reserve a few weeks ago. The cow left her with a deep cut in the stomach, that is still undergoing treatment. Natuurmonumenten will reimburse the woman for all damages she suffered, forester Jeroen de Koe said, according to NOS. "It is our animals and it is our responsiblity."

Some 40 cows escaped from their pasture on Friday morning and spent a few happy hours roaming around the Noord-Brabant town of Bladel, near the border with Belgium.

The police received the first report of the escaped cows around 5:00 a.m. on Friday, according to NU.nl.

The police and municipality both placed calls on their social media pages, looking for experienced farmers to help capture the animals. The cows were finally rounded up near the center of Bladel and near Hulsel. They were loaded into a trailer and returned to their pasture.

The N11 between Alphen aan den Rijn and Hazerswoude-Rijndijk has been closed for a short time on the night of Saturday to Sunday, to all traffic. The reason was that there was a cow loose on the road, reports Omroep West on Sunday. 

After the emergency services arrived, it took them quite a while catch the animal. When the cow was safely back in the meadow, the N11 was given free for all traffic again, except for walking cows.

Dozens of complaints have been registered by local residents at Oostenburgereiland. The Tosti Factory reports that one particular cow, called Els, is the problem. “She has just been separated from her five-month-old calf and therefore lets out her heartbreaking sound.”
