At least 34 people were killed and another 230 injured in targeted attacks on Belgium Tuesday morning. Two bombs were detonated in a departures hall at the Zaventem airport there, causing 14 deaths and wounding 100. The others were killed or hurt when a bomb went off inside a subway car at the city’s Maalbeek metro stop near European Union offices and several media agencies.

Police ordered the evacuation of parts of Amsterdam Centraal after an unattended package was found on the walkway dividing platforms 13 and 14 there. Meanwhile, the station in Hoofddorp, just west of the Amsterdam airport, was also shut down around 11 a.m. after a passenger on a train between the two cities acted suspiciously and was heard making threats, according to railway infrastructure firm ProRail.

Most trains between the Netherlands and Belgium were cancelled by national Dutch railway NS on Tuesday morning after train stations in and around Brussels were closed by authorities, the NS stated. The decisions were made after three separate suicide bombings were carried out at the Zaventem airport and the Maalbeek metro station in Brussels.

Dutch Foreign Affairs minister Bert Koenders approved the addition of nine people to the national list of known terrorists. The government announced the decision less than an hour after three bombings in Brussels claimed the lives of at least 13 people at the Zaventem airport.

"Necessary security measures" are being taken on all Dutch airports following attacks in Brussels on Tuesday morning. The Ministerial Committee for Crisis Management is holding an emergency meeting in The Hague on the situation. Prime Minster Mark Rutte as well as Dick Schoof, the national counterterrorism coordinator, will attend the meeting.
