A man shot and killed on Papaverweg in Amsterdam Noord on Monday night, was identified as gym owner Saban Berk. In 2014 the gym owner told Dutch media that he was often mistaken for, still at large, sex trafficker Saban B. He does not only have the same first name as the convicted human trafficker, but also a similar appearance, NU.nl reports.

A shooting in Amsterdam Noord on Monday night left one person dead. The perpetrator fled, presumably in a silver BMW that was later found in Zaandam. So far no arrests were made.

The shooting happened at around 9:20 p.m. on Papaverweg, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter. The victim was found critically injured on the street. Responding emergency services tried to save their life, but it was to no avail. The victim died at the scene.

While the expected growth is lower than the 3.4 percent growth the region saw last year, the Amsterdam region is still one of the three fastest growing regions in Europe, together with Prague and Warsaw, NU.nl reports.

A 46-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase across the A1, A27, A12, and A2 highways. The man was suspected of a burglary in Amersfoort, when he ignored officers' orders to stop.

It started at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, when police were called to the Hanzeboulevard to investigate a burglary of a business location. A witness at the scene gave police a description of the car, police said in a statement.

Two more police staffers in Amsterdam were suspended for breach of duty, police announced in a statement on Thursday. Four police workers in Amsterdam have faced suspensions for poor conduct since May 28 alone.

Few details were released about the third and fourth staff members facing disciplinary action. They were said to have committed a “breach of duty,” according to an official statement.

An investigation into the discovery of cocaine hidden in a flower shipment in January led to a much larger drug bust in April. Ten people were taken into custody who worked for a logistics firm at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam after 160 kilograms of cocaine was found in another flower shipment.

It was not revealed when the arrests took place, but eight of the suspects were still in custody on Thursday.

Wednesday would have been Anne Frank's 90th birthday. The Jewish Dutch girl, whose name and diary have become a symbol for the atrocities committed in the Second World War and the call for an end to anti-Semitism and prejudice, was commemorated in various ways throughout the world.

Two of Anne's classmates, 89-year-old Albert Gomes de Mesquita and 90-year-old Jacqueline van Maarsen, spent the day at Anne's former home on Merwedeplein 37-2 in Amsterdam. There they spoke to school children of various ages, RTL Nieuws reports.

A 35-year-old American man was arrested at Schiphol Airport on Monday after airport security discovered a loaded firearm in the man’s backpack. The backpack was part of the man’s hand luggage, which was scanned as part of routine security procedures.

Security workers alerted officers from the Marechaussee after the discovery at 7:30 a.m. The suspect was taken into custody, and was still being held a day later. An arraignment hearing in front was expected on Wednesday while the Marechaussee continued its investigation.

It seems increasingly likely that a new cycling bridge will be built over the IJ river in Amsterdam, instead of a tunnel under it. Research by the Ministry of Infrastructure showed that raising the existing bridges over the river higher will cost unaffordable amounts of money, which eliminates the need to build the new bridge extra high - the main argument for building a tunnel instead.

"Is the woman who gave me a lift to my hotel in 1992 maybe here tonight?" Vedder asked during the first, sold out, show of his solo European tour in Afas Live Amsterdam on Sunday, AD reports.

Four Dutch persons were arrested in the Netherlands and Croatia last week as part of a major international investigation into large-scale drug trafficking, led by the German police. The Dutch are suspected of delivering psychoactive substances, popularly called designer drugs, to thousands of German buyers, the Dutch police said in a statement. This involved at least 15 thousand shipments, according to the police.

An unlicensed taxi driver seen soliciting passengers in Schiphol Plaza at the airport was found in possession of a gun, the Marechaussee said in a statement. The man was held in custody at about 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Authorities said the 30-year-old was well-known to authorities. He was questioned at the scene and admitted to offering his services as an unlicensed taxi operator, the statement said.

"When asked if the man had weapons or other illegal items, he said he had a weapon on him. A firearm was found in a neck pouch," the Marechaussee said.

High winds were expected all day throughout the Netherlands, prompting the fourth straight day of inclement weather warnings from the national meteorological agency KNMI. Operations at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam showed only a handful of cancellations but dozens of delays.

KNMI issued a code yellow weather alert for Noord-Holland and the Wadden Sea islands, Friesland, Zuid-Holland, Zeeland, and Limburg. Gusts of wind out of the southwest were expected to be between 75 km/h and 90 km/h, the agency said.

The police were urgently looking for a 14-year-old exchange student from Morocco who disappeared in Amsterdam during the early hours of Wednesday morning. "His supervisors are very concerned about his wellbeing", the police said, adding that the boy only speaks Arabic and doesn't know the Netherlands particularly well.

Mohammed left the Amsterdam host family's home where he had been staying at around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. He had a suitcase with him and was wearing a black quilted jacket, dark gray sweatpants, Nike sneakers, and a gold and red T-shirt with glitter.

An Amsterdam police officer was suspended last week after the officer was deemed guilty of harassment, police said in a statement. The harassment was specified as a stalking case, according to the Telegraaf.

The decision to suspend the officer was made on Tuesday. It was publicly announced a day later. No further details were released about the case.

It’s the second member of the city’s police force to be suspended in a week. On May 28 an Amsterdam cop was disciplined over suspicion of fraud and forgery, police said.
