About half a million people have visited this weekend the 36th edition of the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam. This was reported by the organization on Sunday, the last day of the three-day event. The Uitmarkt is the annual opening of the new cultural season.

The number of visitors is each year between 400,000 and 500,000, depending on the weather. The organization speaks of a very successful festival, without incidents.

The eightieth birthday of Ramses Shaffy will be celebrated with a big musical party at the De La Mar Theatre in Amsterdam. On December 1, the day the singer died four years ago,there will be a tribute to Shaffy in the theater. The proceeds will go to a fund for young artists that Shaffy founded before his death.

The organization of the the benefit event is in the hands of the De La Mar Theatre and producer The Family. The Family produced the new television series about the life of Ramses Shaffy​​.

The Canals Festival in Amsterdam has drawn a record number of 63,000 visitors this year. The Prinsengracht concert, that was held on the last day of the Canal Festival, had the highest ratings ever during the broadcast of the concert on Saturday evening. 919.000 Viewers saw the concert on TV.

During the 16th edition of the Canals Festival, visitors could listen for 10 days at 96 different locations in Amsterdam to classical music. In total there were 228 concerts, more than ever.

On Sunday, the police of The Hague arrested three men and a woman in connection with the discovery of a dead man early Sunday morning. The body was laying in the courtyard of an apartment complex in the Schilderswijk, the Hague.

Police suspect that the man was killed. The identity of the victim is not yet known.
