The city of Amsterdam could open the IJ Tunnel to bicycle traffic on Tuesday as a measure to combat the impact in the capital city of the national public transit strike. The tunnel is normally used as a throughway exclusively for motor vehicle traffic between Amsterdam Noord and Centrum.

The police are looking for 20-year-old Erxinio Luntungan in connection with a fatal shooting in an Amsterdam parking garage over the weekend. The police believe Luntungan was the one who fired the gunshots that killed Orpheo Gefferie, a 25-year-old father from Almere, in a parking garage on Amstelstraat on Saturday morning.

One of the suspects in an attack on media outlet Panorama in Amsterdam last year, partially confessed to his role in the attack. During the trial against the three suspects on Monday, 26-year-old Mike van den B. told the court that he was there when a rocket launcher was fired at the building on Teleportboulevard in Amsterdam-Sloterdijk, but that he didn't know that it was going to happen, AD reports.

An argument at a pay terminal inside a parking garage erupted in gunfire, leaving one young man badly wounded. The man, identified by family as Orpheo Gefferie, died from his injuries at an area hospital, police said.

The mother of his seven-year-old child called Gefferie "the best dad" their son could have had. "We will forever love you," she said on social media.

Gefferie, from Almere, was identified by police as being 26, although at least one newspaper report said he was 24. He spent time traveling back and forth between his Almere home and Suriname.

For the first time since 2011, the celebration will be held on the Museumplein in the center of the city. Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema will not ban alcohol on the city's canals. Barely a week after such a ban was suggested by the city council, Halsema described it as undesirable and disproportionate. 
"Measures [to combat nuisance] serve to enable Amsterdammers to enjoy their city freely. Only misconduct is curbed", she said in a letter to the city council, Het Parool reports.

A 27-year-old man who is suspected of an attempted rape at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam in April, was living in an assisted living institution at the time, was revealed during a hearing on Monday. In September 2016, the man was convicted of a sex crime and sentenced to prison and institutionalized psychiatric treatment, NU.nl reports.

The attempted rape happened on April 12th. On that day the man was allowed to go outside the institution unsupervised, according to the newspaper.

Last year there were around 30 incidents at Amsterdam student complexes where refugees and students live together, the Amsterdam office of mayor and alderman said in a report to the city council. The city is taking measures to reduce these incidents, Het Parool reports.

A man was injured in a shooting on Jorens Ivensplein in IJburg on Sunday night. He was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

The shooting happened at around 11:00 p.m. in the Amsterdam-Oost area, according to NU.nl. The victim was conscious and able to communicate when he was taken to hospital, the police said.

The police are looking for one suspect. The motive for the shooting is not yet clear. The police are investigating.
