The mother of his seven-year-old child called Gefferie "the best dad" their son could have had. "We will forever love you," she said on social media.
Gefferie, from Almere, was identified by police as being 26, although at least one newspaper report said he was 24. He spent time traveling back and forth between his Almere home and Suriname.

In September 2016, the man was convicted of a sex crime and sentenced to prison and institutionalized psychiatric treatment, NU.nl reports.
The attempted rape happened on April 12th. On that day the man was allowed to go outside the institution unsupervised, according to the newspaper.

A man was injured in a shooting on Jorens Ivensplein in IJburg on Sunday night. He was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
The shooting happened at around 11:00 p.m. in the Amsterdam-Oost area, according to NU.nl. The victim was conscious and able to communicate when he was taken to hospital, the police said.
The police are looking for one suspect. The motive for the shooting is not yet clear. The police are investigating.
The municipality of Amsterdam is investigating whether a partial alcohol ban is possible on the water in the city. That would mean that it will no longer be allowed to drink alcohol on boats in certain parts of the city, RTL Nieuws reports.

Police cameras are being installed at the campus on the NDSM site in Amsterdam Noord after an "unacceptable" number of incidents, mayor Femke Halsema said in a letter to the city council. Incidents involved rape, burglary and muggings, and attempts thereto, she said, NU.nl reports.
