A petition was launched on Monday to prevent R. Kelly from performing in Amsterdam later this year. Despite the furor currently surrounding the American singer over multiple allegations of sexual abuse, R. A 24-year-old woman died in a collision on the intersection of Poeldijkstraat and Heemstedestraat in Amsterdam Nieuw-West early on Sunday morning. She was hit by an Uber driver while cycling over the intersection at around 4:00 a.m., Het Parool reports.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene. The 21-year-old taxi driver was arrested and taken to a police station for questioning. The police call on witnesses to come forward.
Around 80 people participated in Amsterdam's "no pants subway ride" on Sunday afternoon. The rode the subway on the Noord-Zuid line without wearing pants, AT5 reports.

Amsterdam Ombudsman Arre Zuurmond wants to implement an age limit for visitors to the Red Light District, he said in a report on nuisance in the area. He believes that keeping children out will help reduce the problems in the area. He did not give a specific minimum age a child must be before being allowed to enter the Red Light District, AD reports.

Norinchukin, a large Japanese bank, will open a branch in Amsterdam in order to maintain uninterrupted access to the European internal market after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, the company officially announced, ANP reports.

An international train from Brussels to Amsterdam was evacuated at Breda station at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. A passenger overheard a conversation in French in which the word "explosive" was mentioned and called the police. After around 90 minutes of investigation, the police concluded that it was a false alarm, AD reports.
One person was injured in a shooting in Amsterdam Zuidoost on Thursday night. The victim was taken to hospital with unknown injuries, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter.
The shooting happened just after 11:00 p.m. near Karspeldreef. So far no arrests were made.
The police are investigating what happened and call on witnesses to come forward.
Supermarket chain Albert Heijn will start offering hot meal delivery from Friday - the first Dutch supermarket to do so. Initially Albert Heijn will only deliver freshly made meals in a certain area in Amsterdam. Deliveries will be handled by Thuisbezorgd.nl and Deliveroo, NU.nl reports.
"We see an increasing demand among our customers for good meals, like you would make yourself, without having to go into the kitchen", said Marit van Egmond, Albert Heijn's director of commerce. The company described this as the next step in food service.

The rest of the Nordmann fir will go to other animals in the zoo, including giraffes, kudus and camels. "For the animals such a tree is behavioral enrichment", a spokesperson for Artis said. "You keep the animals active and healthy by challenging them to show their natural behavior."
Multiple homes on Slotermeerlaan in Amsterdam were evacuated on Friday morning after an ATM bombing. Perpetrators blew open a GWK ATM at around 5:00 a.m. Whether they got away with any cash is not yet clear, AT5 reports.
The bombing caused a large amount of damage. Windows of nearby buildings were shattered, and fragments of the ATM were found on the other side of the street.
Witnesses told AT5 that the bombing was committed by two men, who fled on a scooter. The police are investigating. The Ministry of Defense's explosives experts are also at the scene.
Police have released six of the seven suspects taken into custody after the shooting death of rapper Faisal Mssyeh. Better known as Feis Ecktuh, or just "Feis", the 32-year-old was gunned down in Rotterdam early in the morning on New Year's Day.
His 31-year-old brother received a life-threatening injury during the shooting. Both victims were taken to an area hospital shortly after the incident.
Police arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a Nov. 12 shooting in Amsterdam that wounded a 45-year-old man. A second person is still at large, but a description of that person was not released.
In a short New Year's address, Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema praised the hopeful feeling around the city's future. She said the city wants more people to be able to access Amsterdam's growing prosperity through policy that addresses poverty, disenfranchisement, and crime.
New Year's Eve was particularly busy in Amsterdam, the municipality revealed on Tuesday. Police responded to more incidents than last year, gun use was on the rise, fire fighters were sent out on more calls, and five people were injured in fireworks accidents.
There were seven assaults on Amsterdam police officers at the turn of the new year, and one bus driver was assaulted. This is a slight increase on a year earlier, when there were five such cases.
