The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate will investigate the ferry services in Amsterdam following an accident on Sunday in which 13 people were hurt. As soon as the police investigation into the accident is done, the Inspectorate will conduct a broader investigation, Het Parool reports.
Thirteen people were injured when a ferry across the IJ river crashed into De Ruijterkade near Amsterdam Central Station on Sunday afternoon. The police are investigating what happened.
One person was taken to hospital with a broken wrist, Het Parool reports. A pregnant woman was also taken to hospital for examination. Everyone else sustained only minor injuries.
Multiple shots were fired in a home on Goudbalpad in Amsterdam Noord on Sunday night in what the police believe was an attempted robbery, a police spokesperson confirmed to ANP.
What exactly happened is not clear. According to Het Parool, armed men followed a family into their garage when they came home. There was a scuffle between one of the residents and the intruders, and a man got hit on the head with a pistol. A number of shots were fired and the intruders fled.
It is not clear whether anyone was hit by bullets. The police are investigating.
Amsterdam was rocked by two shootings within hours of each other. A man was seriously injured in a shooting in Amsterdam Nieuw-West on Thursday night. The second shooting happened in Amsterdam Noord early on Friday morning. Another man was hurt, the police said on Twitter
A bloodied, beheaded doll was found in front of the Emir Sultan Mosque in Amsterdam Noord early Thursday morning. The doll's body, found laying below the severed head attached by metal hook to a fence, had a note denouncing "Islamization" pinned to it.
"I'm asking you not to worry about this incident," mosque president Kamber Şener wrote on Facebook, saying they reported the incident to police. "I hope they will find the perpetrators as soon as they can," he continued, asking for the city to unite against such incidents.
Police in Amsterdam Noord fired a gunshot while trying to apprehend a man suspected of intentionally setting a fire in the cellar of a daycare facility while children were in attendance. Officers responded to reports of the fire at the Johanna Margaretha child care center on Wingerdweg at about 2 p.m. on Friday and found the alleged offender in the basement.
The children were already whisked away from the building by the daycare’s staff before first responders arrived on the scene. They were kept safe at a nearby school.
Plans for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the IJ river in Amsterdam, can not count on support from Dutch public works department Rijkswaterstaat or Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen of Infrastructure and Environment, ANP reports.
