A diabetic man who crashed his car into a group of pedestrians at Amsterdam Central Station on June 10th last year, will not be prosecuted, the Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday. "Extensive investigation by the police showed that there was no intent in play but that the motorist - a diabetic patient - had become ill due to a low blood sugar level", the Prosecutor said.

Seven pedestrians, mainly tourists, were injured in the collision.

The police released razor-sharp photos of a man wanted for stealing thousands of euros from a locker at Amsterdam Centraal in May. After months of investigation, the police are still unable to identify the man and now hope that information from the public can help.

According to the police, the man stole a few thousand euros from a locker in a business space belonging to a restaurant at the station. The owner of the locker withdrew the money from his bank before starting work that day, May 26th, and stored it in his locker. He wanted to buy new things for his home the next day.

The access gates on Amsterdam Central Station are locked from today. From now on travelers will have to check in with their public transit card to gain access to the station and platforms, NOS reports.

People only visiting the station to say goodbye to someone, or visit one of the stores in the station, can check in and out for free within one hour. 

The intention is to also lock the gates at Amsterdam Sloterdijk station before the end of the year. According to NOS, then 75 of the over 400 train stations in the Netherlands will have locked gates.

On Sunday afternoon the police found a little boy abandoned on Amsterdam Central Station. The boy is four or five years old, and the police are still having trouble finding out who he is, where he's from and who his parents are. Surveillance camera footage show that he was with a woman. The police are looking for this woman.

According to the police, the boy is healthy and currently living with a foster family. So far no one reported him missing. It is unclear what country the child is from.

The police of Amsterdam admitted to wrongly detaining a young man last week Monday, and using "unlawful violence". On Thursday the police will apologize to the victim, Ammar Nayare, in the presence of his lawyer, a police spokesperson reported.

Nayare told on Facebook that he was running to catch a train in Amsterdam Central Station. The police mistook him for a robber and grabbed him by his collar. Even after identifying himself, he got punched in the stomach and pulled to the ground, injuring his face.

ProRail will rebuild and revamp large parts of Amsterdam Central Station, Amsterdam Amstel Station and Schiphol Station in the coming years, a spokesperson for ProRail confirmed to NU.nl after reports in the Telegraaf. This is necessary to accommodate the new 10-minute train schedule ProRail and NS plan to implement.

The police finished their investigation into an incident in which a 45-year-old man crashed his car into seven pedestrians on Stationplein at Amsterdam Central Station in June and concluded that it was an accident. There is no evidence that suggests the man deliberately crashed his car into the pedestrians. The police fired a warning shot on Stationplein in front of Amsterdam Central Station while arresting two men after a report of firearm possession on Monday afternoon, AD reports.

The police received the report around 4:30 p.m. It said that two men were seen at the station with a firearm. Two suspects, aged 21 and 48 years, were arrested after a warning shot was fired. No firearm was found on them, but they were still in custody on Monday night, according to the newspaper.

A 22-year-old au pair from Loenen aan de Vecht has been missing for almost a month. Anjelie Basco left the Utrecht town on September 9th to meet someone she met on Tinder and never returned, AD reports.

On Saturday, September 9th, the young woman took public transit towards Amsterdam. According to the police, she had her cellphone and passport with her. At 10:10 a.m. she checked out at Amsterdam Central Station with her public transit card. Later on Saturday she sent messages to friends on WhatsApp. On Sunday the 10th, she opened her WhatsApp a few times, but sent no messages.

NS intends to close the entrance gates at all major train stations by the end of the year. This started with a three day test at Amsterdam Central Station, which started on Thursday and ends at Saturday. If this test goes well, the gates will be locked permanently at Amsterdam CS from December, meaning that travelers can only enter the station by checking in with their public transit card, NOS reports.

A person who was found dead in the bathroom of an intercity direct train in Amsterdam Central Station on Thursday afternoon, died a natural death, a doctor determined. With that, the police investigation is closed, AD reports.

The body was found on a train that arrived in Amsterdam from Breda and Rotterdam at around 1:00 p.m. The police closed track 14 for investigation and removed the body.

A person was found dead on the toilet of a train at Amsterdam Central Station on Thursday afternoon, the Amsterdam police announced on Twitter.

The person was found on an intercity direct, which arrived at Amsterdam Central Station from Breda and Rotterdam around 1:00 p.m., according to Het Parool. 

The person has not yet been identified. The cause of death is also still unclear. The police conducted an investigation in the train. Track 14 is closed for the investigation.

On Tuesday website GeenStijl published a screenshot of the online police system showing the name and ethnicity of a driver that crashed into a group of pedestrians at Amsterdam Central Station in June. The Amsterdam police is shocked by this leak. They believe that a police officer must have sent the information to the controversial news site and promise to get to the bottom of it, the Volkskrant reports.

The central stations in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht will soon again have a large screen showing train information, NS announced. According to the rail company, the large screens are returning due to many requests from travelers.

NS does not yet know how big the screens will be. "But it will be a big screen with travel information", a spokesperson said to NOS. "The small screens will also continue to exist, but such a large screen is a good central point so you can quickly see when your train is leaving."

Amsterdam is planning two bridges to connect Amsterdam with Amsterdam Noord. The first will by a bicycle bridge from Java Island to Noord. The second bridge will be built in West, near Stenen Hoofd. There are also tentative plans for a pedestrian tunnel at Central Station, the mayor and aldermen announced on Thursday, AT5 reports.

The man that crashed into a group of pedestrians in front of Amsterdam Central Station on Saturday night, almost certainly did not do so intentionally, the police said on Twitter on Sunday night. The police came to this conclusion after searching the man's home. Two of the eight victims were still in hospital at the time of the police update.

The municipality of Amsterdam projected an image of the British flag, the Union Jack, onto Amsterdam Central Station on Tuesday night to show solidarity with the victims of an attack in Manchester on Monday.

"Out of solidarity with the victims of the attack in Manchester, Amsterdam Central Station is lit with the Union Jack", the municipality said on twitter.

Two people sustained minor injuries when a ferry collided with a jetty behind Amsterdam Central Station on Monday. One of the victims went overboard, Het Parool reports.

According to the police, both victims were treated at the scene of the accident. Neither had to go to hospital.

The municipality of Amsterdam is planning to build a new large bicycle parking garage on the IJ, near Amsterdam Central Station that will be able to hold over 4 thousand bicycles. The city government approved the proposal by traffic alderman Pieter Litjens on Tuesday, the Telegraaf reports.

Six underage kids were arrested at Amsterdam Central Station on Sunday evening on suspicion of assaulting a fellow passenger in a stationary subway train. The victim was injured in the face and knee, Het Parool reports.

The assault happened around 8:30 p.m. on subway 54, which travels to Gein. The victim was assaulted by seven attackers. Six of them were arrested, with the aid of GVB personnel. The suspects are between the ages of 14 and 16 years, all from Amsterdam Zuidoost.

The police are still looking for a seventh suspect, a 20-year-old man.

Striking taxi drivers in Amsterdam blocked access to the taxi stand on the west side of Amsterdam Central Station on Monday, which means that travelers can not take a taxi from the station. The drivers are tired of the endless new rules from the municipality of Amsterdam, a spokesperson said to NOS.

According to the spokesperson, the problems started when the municipality moved the taxi stand from the front to the back of the station. "We lost almost 60 percent of our customers", he said. People don't know where to find the taxis. "Even the toilet signs are better clarified."

The central hall of Amsterdam Central Station was evacuated and closed down to the public for a short time on Monday night due to abandoned luggage. The police investigated and found nothing suspicious in the luggage, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter.

The east- and west- sides of the station were still accessible during the investigation.. Train traffic was also not disrupted, a spokesperson for NS said to the Telegraaf.

Train travelers in Amsterdam may have to deal with cancelled or delayed trains during the evening rush hour on Monday. NS expects "possible disruptions" due to striking train drivers and conductors from 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

The train drivers and conductor will hold a meeting at Amsterdam Central Station starting at 5:00 p.m. They will not work during this meeting. It is as yet unclear how many train drivers will be taking part in the strike, and therefore the possible consequences are also not clear.
