A hurried mom left behind something very important at an Amersfoort station platform on Sunday - her two children. The mother entered the train helping a family member with their baggage, when the train suddenly departed. She quickly realized that her kids were still standing on the station platform.

Train traffic from Schiphol to Amersfoort was halted for a short time on Wednesday after an explosive was found near the tracks in Laren. Defense's explosives disposal team cleared it away, Het Parool reports.

The explosive experts believe it is an old explosive, likely dating from World War II. According to the police, there is no danger for local residents or the environment. 

The explosive was found near Doctor Albert Schweitzerweg by people working on the railway.

Train traffic restarted around 2:30 p.m., about an hour after it was halted.

The body of Marloes Idzerda was found in a wooded area in Soest on Wednesday after two days of searching. The 44-year-old woman from Amersfoort disappeared on Sunday. 

Idzerda was last seen on Sunday. She was reported missing during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Her car was found on Oude Leusderweg in Soest on Sunday.

A pupil of the Corderius College in Amersfoort was suspended for making a Nazi video featuring one of the school's teachers. The pupil photoshopped the teacher's head into footage showing Nazi practices and the video ended up online, RTV Utrecht reports.

"It's a so-called joke", rector Egbert Boerma said to the broadcaster. "But there are jokes with far-reaching consequences. Pupils have to know that and sometimes they have to feel it too." For privacy reasons, the school did not say whether the pupil is a boy or a girl.

A 19-year-old man died in hospital after falling from the third floor of an apartment building on Ringweg Randenbroek in Amersfoort on Sunday morning, De Gelderlander reports.

Eyewitnesses saw the young man walking over the gallery of the apartment building on Sunday morning. They told the newspaper that he was acting strangely, coming dangerously close to the balustrade. Local residents were considering calling the police, when he fell and landed on top of a parked car.

A truck crashed into a pillar of a viaduct on te A28 at Leusden-Zuid on Tuesday morning. The highway from Utrecht to Amersfoort is closed, the traffic information services report on twitter. 

The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. The truck driver is trapped in the truck, according to the police. The fire department is at the scene, and placed screens around the scene of the accident. A trauma helicopter is also at the scene, AD reports.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in Amersfoort on Sunday night after he threw his bicycle at a passing ambulance and then assaulted the driver, ANP reports.

The incident happened on Utrechtseweg. The man threw a bicycle at a passing ambulance, hitting it. The paramedics stopped, thinking that they hit someone. When the driver opened his door, the man again threw the bicycle at the ambulance. When the driver approached him, he punched the driver in the face.

A police officer was assaulted and choked in Amersfoort during the early hours of Saturday morning. She was taken to hospital with a severe concussion and injuries to her face. Six young people were arrested, the police said in a statement.

National Police Chief Erik Akerboom expressed his disgust over the incident. "Aggression, alcohol and drugs are too often the cause. Harsh punishment is the only thing that fits", he said on Twitter. He called it "shocking and unacceptable".

Princess Beatrix participated in NLdoet - a major annual volunteer action by the Oranje Fonds - on Friday. The former Queen, prince Bernhard and princess Annette, actively helped making learning and play materials and preparing the garden for spring at children's day center Onder een Dak in Amersfoort, RTL Nieuws reports.

The day center teaches kids and teens with intellectual disabilities how to deal with daily activities.

The police raided five homes in Utrecht, Bunschoten-Spakenburg and Amersfoort on Tuesday as part of a major investigation into a number of assassinations and attempted assassinations in the Utrecht region. Two persons from Bunschoten-Spakenburg, aged 24 and 33 years, were arrested. The police also seized four firearms and a number of other items, AD reports.

This week the police arrested three people from Amersfoort and Soest in connection with dog fighting. The police believe they form part of a criminal organization responsible for organizing dog fights, the Telegraaf reports.

The suspects are between the ages of 30 and 33 years. All three were previously in custody, also for organizing dog fights in a number of locations.

A "scarily high" 31 percent of sushi meals that are delivered to customers' homes contain too much bacteria, according to consumers association Consumentenbond. This is caused by poor hygiene in the preparation of the meals, the association concludes after testing 160 sushi samples from 20 restaurants in five cities, NU.nl reports.

Poor hygiene standards include using dirty cutting boards and employees not washing their hands before working with the food. In many cases the delivered sushi was fresh, the Consumentenbond added.

The number of electric cars in the Randstad area will grow massively in the coming years, according to a study on the purchase of electric cars done by grid manager Stedin, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University and ElaadNL. This is partly thanks to the fact that electric cars are becoming more affordable, ANP reports.

An Armenian mother was deported from the Netherlands on Monday without her children Howick (12) and Lily (11). The family lived in the Netherlands for nine years. According to children's rights organization Defense for Children, this is the first time ever that a mother was deported without her kids. "Horrible", the organization said, according to RTL Nieuws.

There was some panic at DierenPark Amersfoort on Wednesday afternoon when several visitors reported a man acting suspiciously, possibly with a firearm in he zoo. Multiple police units responded and access to the zoo was closed to prevent the person leaving the premises. It turned out to be a father and son with a toy gun, police spokesperson Bernhard Jens said to newspaper AD.

Police officers in Rotterdam, Amersfoort in Zwolle participating in an experiment in arming police officers with tasers, are satisfied with the weapon in general. Since the experiment was launched in February, the nearly 300 officers armed with electric shock weapons used the tasers on suspects 34 times and threatened them with it another 78 times, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.
