The Dutch police unions are calling on their members to only respond to emergency reports in the weekend of September 14th to 16th, and to perform no other of their duties. This forms part of long ongoing labor actions for a better collective bargaining agreement for the police, NOS reports.

This is the most severe labor action ever taken by the police, a spokesperson for the unions said to NOS. "But we have to take this step. If noting changes now, we will soon not be able to be there when citizens need us." The action will have major consequences, according to the unions.

People traveling through Utrecht Central Station on Monday morning should take delays into account due to police officers protesting for a better collective bargaining agreement, according to the police unions. Between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., the police will construct cordons around the station in a labor action they call "danger zone", NU.nl reports.

Travelers will only be able to enter and leave the station through these cordons. This will cause delays, according to police unions ACP, NPB, ANPV an VMHP.

Police union ACP is seriously concerned about the safety of various shooting ranges the police use for training. The union recently learned that a bullet bounced back and hit a police officer's hearing protection at the shooting range in Sevenum, Limburg and problems resulted in the closure of ranges in Den Bosch and Kerkrade, according to the union, RTL Nieuws reports.

According to the union, the police leadership hasn't given a proper explanation about the problems at these shooting ranges.

The police have too little manpower to check all signals about illegal fireworks, according to Gerrit van de Kamp of police union ACP. There are simply not enough police officers to go check every address where illegal fireworks are suspected, RTL Nieuws reports.

The police are intensively searching for illegal fireworks providers and buyers, but they can't keep up. "That stuff is traded across the entire country", Van der Kamp said. "The police want to check all suspicions, but the amount of work is too great."

Police union ACP is calling for more transparency on the costs involved in police deployment to demonstrations. "Our plea is that the police will show how many demonstrations there are a year and  what the costs of these demonstrations are", union chairman Gerrit van de Kamp said to RTL Nieuws.

A police training session has prompted an internal investigation after live ammunition suddenly exploded when a bullet cartridge was removed from a weapon. The incident sent shrapnel from the cartridge into a police officer's protective equipment, though there were no injuries.

The accident happened last week as an Amsterdam tactical unit was training in Ossendrecht, Noord-Brabant. The explosion took place when a clip fell to the ground, police confirmed to both nu.nl and newspaper AD.

Of the 700 aspiring police officers who signed up at the Police Academy this year, 25 percent have a non-Western background - double compared to 2015, Peter Slort, head of diversity at the National Police, told the Volkskrant. The new figures match the police's goal to become more ethnically diverse. Currently only 7 percent of Dutch police officers have an immigration background, according to the newspaper.

Since the establishment of the National Police in 2013, some 3 thousand police officers were placed on long-term sick leave and are now sitting at home with hardly any contact with their employer, Jan Struis, chairman of Dutch police union NPB, said on EenVandaag on Thursday. According to him, many of these cops were put on sick leave after expressing criticism about the police, ANP reports.

Dutch police officers want more training in arrest techniques and self-defense, as well as more shooting lessons, police union ACP said to newspaper AD.

Each police officer must undergo at least 32 hours of training per year. But due to a shortage of teachers, around half of the cops in the Netherlands don't get there, according to the union.

The police arrested multiple people in the Zaandam neighborhood of Poelenburg on Monday night. The exact number of arrests are unclear, as are reason they were arrested. The Volkskrant reports that four troublemakers were arrested. According to the Twitter account of police officer Mike Koenekoop, 8 arrests were made.
