Voter turnout was up substantially in the country's provincial election on Wednesday, compared with turnout in 2015. Some 57.9 percent of eligible voters showed up at polling places, up from 47.8 percent four years earlier, according to RTL Nieuws.

There are 75 seats in the chamber, with the coalition currently holding 38 for a razor thin majority.

The police regularly manipulate crime figures, according to a study among police officers by investigative journalism platform Investico. Criminal offenses are kept off the books, police officers try to discourage citizens from filling reports, and cases are marked as 'resolved' when they are not, according to the study published in De Groene Amsterdammer.
The platform surveyed nearly 1,500 police officers and conducted interviews with dozens of cops and others involved.
Three CDA politicians reported the disappearance of around 30 election posters to the police. They believe the posters were deliberately stolen. On Twitter CDA Provincial States member Marcel Deryckere called it "extremely sad" that these signs were stolen. "Campaigning is a celebration and elections are the culmination of our democracy."

The prison library in Vught, which also serves the prison's terrorist department, contains several radical Islam books that glorify the armed jihad, suicide bombings and the humiliation of Jews and Christians, the Telegraaf reports based on a book list in its possession.
The book list was given to the newspaper by a prisoner. The fact that the books are available in the Vught prison is striking, as the deradicalization of detainees in the terrorist department is a spearhead for the prison.
A 17-year-old boy from Noord-Holland has been in custody in Spain for four months. Two underage British girls accused him of sexual assault, but no official charges have yet been filed against Charly T. The teenager himself denies the girls' accusations, AD reports.
"The Spanish judiciary is pretending I had a terrible Master Plan to get two underage girls drunk and then sexually abuse them. But that is not so. I am not a serious criminal", T. said in a telephone interview with Nieuws en Co on NPO Radio 1.
