Shots rang out on the Langbroekdreef in Amsterdam Zuidoost, striking one person. The victim later died of their injuries, police said.

Authorities confirmed that a vehicle was shot at on the street, and that two suspects fled the scene on a scooter. After the gunshots, the vehicle crashed into a fire station down the street.

Criminal law attorney Derk Wiersum was standing next to his wife when he was gunned down near their home on Imstenrade in Amsterdam Zuid on Wednesday morning. The woman was not physically injured in the attack that killed her husband. "There are no further victims", a police spokesperson said to Het Parool. Wiersum is survived by his wife and two school-aged children.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte, MPs and lawyers are shocked by the murder of criminal law attorney Derk Wiersum in Amsterdam on Wednesday morning, calling it an attack on the rule of law. "Very disturbing reports", Rutte said to reporters in response to the lawyer's death. Justice Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus is currently being informed about what the authorities know so far. "As soon as any announcements can be made, that will happen", the Prime Minister said.

Het Parool and De Telegraaf identify the victim as Derk Wiersum, the lawyer that represented key witness Nabil B. A police officer confirmed this in an interview with AT5, adding that the 44-year-old lawyer lived on Imstenrade where the shooting happened.

The Amsterdam police arrested 303 supporters of French football club Lille OSC at the Strandvliet subway station in Amsterdam on Tuesday for disrupting public order. The large group of football fans lit fireworks, used violence and walked on the subway tracks. By Tuesday night, eight of them were still in custody, the police said on Twitter.

The partner of Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema was formally questioned in connection with the ownership of a deactivated German revolver, according to newspapers Telegraaf and AD. Robert Oey was considered a crime suspect for the purpose of the interview, a spokesperson told the Telegraaf.

A spokesperson for the public prosecution service in Haarlem said the official interview was planned after Oey said the gun which led to the arrest of his and Halsema’s son was actually his.

The weapon that Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema's 15-year-old son was arrested with in July was a deactivated revolver that belonged to his father, Robert Oey, the boy's father and Halsema's partner said in an interview with NRC. The boy found the weapon in a drawer in the mayor's official residence, where Oey left it before going on a business trip to Hong Kong, he said, adding that Halsema did not know the weapon was there. Opposition parties in Amsterdam want an explanation from the mayor.

The municipality of Amsterdam is considering using environmental- and mobile cameras to make sure scooters and mopeds stay off the bike paths. The use of cameras can increase the chance of catching scooter riders ignoring the ban. Since the ban was implemented, 3,500 fines and 360 warnings have been issued for scooter and moped riders caught on bike paths, alderman Sharon Dijksma announced, Het Parool reports.

The body of former Philips East Africa boss Tob Cohen was found in a septic tank next to the Kitisuru, Kenya villa where he resided, authorities in Kenya confirmed. Cohen had been missing for 60 days, amid a contentious divorce with his wife, Wairimu "Sarah" Kamotho.

She was arrested late last month in connection with his disappearance. A friend of her's was taken into custody this week and reportedly confessed early on Friday, leading to the body's discovery.

On January 1st, the average home in the Netherlands was worth 248 thousand euros, 7.8 percent more than in 2018. An investigation into a grizzly report of a dead body wrapped in plastic garbage bags determined that the alleged corpse was actually a doll. Police responded to the underground garbage containers outside a nine-story apartment building on President Kennedylaan in Amsterdam Zuid at about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday where the "mortal remains" were found.

"Extensive research was then done on site, which turned out to be a doll."

An increasing number of young people in Amsterdam carry a knife with them, make threatening videos with it, and actually use it on the street, and that is very concerning, Amsterdam police chief Frank Paauw said to AT5.

"You can see it is getting out of hand", Paauw said to the Amsterdam broadcaster "Sometimes you see young people under 15 who are already walking around with a knife. The possession of weapons the carrying of knives, is becoming commonplace."

A fire at a care home in Amsterdam left one person "severely injured" on Tuesday afternoon. The resident was transported to an area hospital with burn wounds, authorities said.

Several other people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, authorities said. The blaze occurred in the Amsta facility on Van 't Hooflaan in the Watergraafsmeer neighborhood of Amsterdam Oost. The building is a specialized location for housing elderly people with dementia.

The father of Insiya Hemani, a little girl kidnapped from Amsterdam in 2016, has to pay her mother a penalty of 10 thousand euros for every day he keeps their daughter with him in India, the court in The Hague ruled, Het Parool reports.

Shehzad Hemani has to start paying from the day the ruling reaches him in India, according to the newspaper. The ruling was sent to him last week Wednesday. The sum can run up to a maximum of one million euros.
