Six people were arrested after an explosion at an ATM rocked Roermond just after midnight on Monday morning. Six people were arrested, all aged between 21 and 27.

Those arrested were from Amsterdam, Roermond, and Sittard-Geleen. One person was taken into custody near the blast on Hoekstraat in the immediate aftermath. Five more men were taken into custody in the nearby Limburg town of Beek.

Four men were arrested in Amstelveen on Friday when police found five bags of cannabis and a block of cocaine hidden in secret compartments of two vehicles. Along with the drugs, police seized nearly 40,000 euros, 1,700 British pounds, 1,200 Swiss francs, 14 gemstones, five gold coins, a smaller quantity of cannabis, and a sex-toy with inlaid diamonds.

The police in Cardiff, Wales believe that one of their missing residents may be staying in Amsterdam. The Amsterdam police call on the public to keep an eye out for 38-year-old Jonathan Humphrey and contact them with any information.

Humphrey was reported missing on November 21st, but had not been seen for some time before that.

An Air Arabia flight to Nador, Morocco had to return to Schiphol airport on Tuesday after its starboard engine caught fire. A passenger coming out of the engine. According to Airport Webcams, it is believed that the fire was caused by a bird flying into the engine.

Residents of the Netherlands' four largest cities can expect their parking permits to put a real dent in their budget next year. Amsterdam is the only one of the four cities not implementing a major price increase for next year, though the Dutch capital is still most expensive when it comes to parking costs, according to a survey by association Eigen Huis among 53 Dutch municipalities, RTL Nieuws reports.

Moped riders will be banned from bike paths in Amsterdam starting on April 8th next year, the municipality announced. With the move to the public roads, moped riders will also be obliged to where a helmet. Failing to wear a helmet, or riding on a bicycle path, will result in a 95 euro fine, the municipality said.

On Thursday the police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of involvement in the mistaken identity murder of Stefan Eggermont and the assassination of Massod Amin Hosseini, both in Amsterdam in 2014. Sources told newspaper NU.nl that the suspect is Ilias K.

K. is already in custody on suspicion of playing an organizing role in the in Zaandam in February 2014, according to the newspaper.

Mayor Femke Halsema invited a group of Amsterdam retailers to the city hall on Friday to discuss how they can reduce cash transactions. The Public Prosecutor and the Tax Authority will also take part in the meeting, the Telegraaf reports.

In her invitation, sent on Monday, Halsema points to the criminal use of cash. "Because cash leaves no traces, it is misused by non-honest consumers to launder illegally obtained funds", she wrote. She believes that fewer cash transactions could lead to a safer city.

A data leak affecting the municipality of Amsterdam revealed the names and addresses of residents upset about the city’s home share policy. In one case a phone number was also leaked, AT5 reports.

The data was not recorded on the municipality's website in an unrecognizable way, according to the Amsterdam broadcaster. Around 10 Amsterdam residents were affected by the leak. Whether the data was misused is unclear.

A man was shot on Hoekenes in Amsterdam's Osdorp on Wednesday evening. The injured man was taken to hospital, the police said on Twitter.

The shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. near Osdorper Ban, according to Het Parool. The police closed down the street for investigation.

A witness told AT5 that he heard a bang and the victim screaming in pain. "I'm dying!" the victim screamed, according to the witness. Other witnesses told the Amsterdam broadcaster that there were three perpetrators involved, though the police could not confirm this.

One of two American tourists who were is now bound to a wheelchair and may be for the rest of his life, his lawyer said in a pro-forma hearing against suspect on Tuesday. The other victim was stabbed in his arm and sustained nerve damage, NU.nl reports.

At least 13 large municipalities and a number of smaller ones will be experimenting with voluntary firework-free zones this New Year's, the Volkskrant reports after speaking with the 44 largest municipalities in the Netherlands.

The municipality provides signboards for such firework-free zones, but not enforcements. Local residents can apply for a firework-free zone, and it is up to them to enforce it. The mayors hope to reduce fireworks nuisance without incurring high costs in this way, according to the newspaper.

Protest movement "yellow vests" announced a protest march in Amsterdam on Saturday. Protesters will gather at the Stopera at 11:30 a.m. and then march along the Amstel and around the city hall. The protest was reported to the municipality, a spokesperson for Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said to Het Parool.

Amsterdam is one of the world's top 25 most visited cities in the world, according to Euromonitor International's annual Top 100 City Destinations 2018. Like last year, the Dutch capital is 23rd in the ranking, NU.nl reports.

In 2018 Amsterdam welcomed 8.5 million visitors, an 8 percent increase compared to 2017. Since 2012, Amsterdam climbed four spots on the ranking.

Euromonitor International considers a visitor to be someone who spends more than one day but less than 12 months in a city. Day visitors are therefore not included in the figures.

A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Rozengracht in the center of Amsterdam on Tuesday morning. The accident happened on the tram lane, where only taxi drivers with a permit can drive, AD reports.

The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. The pedestrian died at the scene. As yet nothing is known about the victim's identity.

The driver was taken to a police station for questioning, as is standard procedure. The taxi driver was driving a black Toyota. For which company the driver works, is not known.
