Disappointed, but proud. Those three words sum up the emotions of the Oranje Lionesses after their 2-0 loss against the United States in the World Cup final in Lyon on Sunday. "Sure there is disappointment, but we had a fantastic tournament. This is now the result, and I am very proud", goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal said to NOS.

The excellent 2019 World Cup tournament run by the Dutch women's national football team came to a disappointing end on Sunday night when the United States beat the Netherlands 2-0. In a match where Dutch goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal racked up save after save securing the Golden Glove for the tournament, the U.S. was able to consistently pierce Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman's defensive strategy until a penalty broke the match wide open in the 61st minute.

The World Cup final against the United States on Sunday is extra special for Dominique Bloodworth. Because while she is playing for the Oranje Lionesses, she is married to an American. Despite this conflict of interest, the Oranje defender knows her in-laws support her and plans to make them proud, she said to NU.nl.

The Dutch women's national football team takes on the United States in the 2019 World Cup final on Sunday. An Oranje victory would mean that the party eventually moves from the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon, France, and back to the Netherlands.

As champions, the team would celebrate with a floating parade through the Amsterdam canals on Tuesday, beginning at 4:30 p.m., according to plans announced by the City of Amsterdam. A rally would follow the cruise at Museumplein around 6 p.m.

The Oranje Lionesses and their fans are elated by the Dutch team's progression to the World Cup Final after a 1-0 victory over Sweden on Wednesday. "Not normal, hey", Jackie Groenen, who scored the winning goal, said to NOS after the match. "We worked so hard, it's nice to play in this team. That I scored doesn't matter, it's more important that we won and that we are in the final."

Groenen praised the team spirit among the Oranje Lionesses. "We have a team that is there for each other and that works."

Oranje move on to their first-ever World Cup final, and will play the United States whose players held on to defeat England 2-1 on Tuesday. Sweden will play England for third place.

Excitement is in the air as the Dutch women’s football team gear up to face Sweden in the 2019 FIFA World Cup semi-finals match on Wednesday.

This is the first ever semi-final spot for Oranje Leeuwinnen and their second appearance in the 28-year history of the World Cup – their first being in 2015. To secure the coveted spot, Oranje dominated Italy in last Saturday’s match, emerging with a 2-0 win after only scoring in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Dutch football association KNVB is critical of the amount in prize money FIFA made available for the Women's World Cup - a total of around 26.5 million euros. While that is double the amount available four years ago, it is still a pittance compared to the 355 million euros paid to the men after the World Cup in Russia. "Yes, they doubled it, but if you double something that is nothing, it is still nothing", KNVB director Jan Dirk van der Zee said to the Telegraaf.

The OranjeLeeuwinnen dominated their opening match in the 2019 Women's World Cup in every category, but simply could not manage to send the ball into the back of the net. That all changed in the second minute of injury time when Jill Roord sent the ball in off her head and past New Zealand keeper Erin Nayler.
