The United States Department of State adjusted travel advice for the Netherlands because of a threat of terrorism. The threat level given by the U.S. for the Netherlands was raised from level 1 to level 2. This means that there are increased safety risks and visitors must be extra careful, according to the travel advice, RTL Nieuws reports.

Prime Minster Mark Rutte called for more international cooperation in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, local time. The Dutch Prime Minister's speech stood in stark contrast to what American president Donald Trump had to say the day before, ANP reports.

Trump criticized multilateral cooperation between countries and organizations. He renounced virtually everything that even resembles international cooperation.

From next year KLM will be offering a direct flight between Schiphol and Las Vegas. "By adding Las Vegas as KLM's newest destination, we can offer our customers more flight connections to and from the American west coast", Pieter Elbers, CEO of the Dutch airline, said, AT5 reports.

Currently travelers can only reach Sin City from Amsterdam with one or more stopovers. But that will change as of June 6th, 2019. From then KLM will offer three direct flights from Schiphol to Las Vegas and back per week.

The United States is threatening with sanctions against the International Criminal Court in The Hague and its judges if the ICC participates in an investigation into possible war crimes committed by American soldiers in Afghanistan. "The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court", US national security adviser John Bolton said in a speech in Washington, the Guardian reports.

Two Dutch women and a 6-year-old Dutch boy were killed in a shooting in an apartment in New York on Tuesday. The perpetrator was also killed.

The victims are 47-year-old Linda Olthof from Deventer, her young son Jimmy, and a 38-year-old Dutch woman, AD reports. They were shot and killed by American man James Shields, Linda's ex husband. The other victim was his current wife. According to the newspaper, the police believe that Shields shot his son and the two women, and then committed suicide.

It is expected that later this year a decision will be made about the early release of Dutch-Surinamese man Jaitsen Singh, who has been in prison in the United States for 34 years. There is a chance that he was unjustly convicted of the murders of his wife and daughter, ANP reports.

Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs said that the Netherlands expressed its support for an early release on humanitarian grounds. Singh is getting consular assistance from the Netherlands.

Two Dutch people were killed in a traffic accident in the United States state of Oregon, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. A third person in the car with them also died. His nationality has not yet been confirmed, NOS reports.

The three people were driving near the town of Salem when their car was hit from behind by a pick-up truck. They then crashed into another car. 

According to KATU News, the accident happened on Thursday. The victims died from their injuries over the weekend.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte will pay a visit to United States president Donald Trump early next month at the invitation of the White House, sources told the Telegraaf.

After some time looking for a gap in the agenda for Rutte and Trump to meet, the meeting was tentatively scheduled for July 2nd, according to the newspaper. Rutte and Trump have spoken before, over the telephone and in the margins of a NATO summit in Hamburg, but this will be their first official meeting.

American companies settling in Europe are increasingly opting for a country other than the Netherlands. "The Netherlands is not automatically the first choice anymore", Patrick Mikkelsen, director of  AmCham, the American Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands, said to newspaper AD.

The Americans are critical of the Dutch business climate and believe that the Netherlands should implement changes quickly. Criticisms include high corporate tax in the Netherlands, and planned changes to a favorable tax regulation for expats.
