A'dam classified 'Jihad city'

In The Netherlands, 5000 professionals, including teachers and agents, have been trained to spot signs of radicalization. Amsterdam, The Hague, and Almere have been classified as 'jihad cities', where jihadists are being closely followed. 

Minister for Security and Justice, Ivo Opstelten, will not confirm exactly which municipalities have a lot of jihad activity, although Amsterdam, The Hague and Almere have been confirmed as 'jihad cities.' Suspected cities are Rotterdam, Delft, Zoetermeer, Gouda, Arnhem and Zeist. According to the minister, there are "less than ten municipalities" with this classification.

The National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTV) and the security service AIVD have increased manpower against jihadists, the AD reports from confidential information. These jihadists come back to The Netherlands from Syria, and are followed in the country.

Police agents have been granted permission to follow these freedom fighters and interfere with their plans. "Every jihadist comes on the radar of the authorities on their return", the AD's confidential pieces state.

The Royal Military Police has intensified border control. Since March 2013, 13 passports of jihadists have been pronounced expired. Next to that, "some dozens" of benefits claims have been halted. Financial credit balances of jihadists have been frozen four times.

According to the information, there are "several hundreds" of jihad-supporters in The Netherlands. The report "Treatment Violent Extremism" describes the high impact of a possible extremist action on society.
