While the Netherlands is enjoying warm sunny weather on Friday, the weekend will not be quite as pleasant. Saturday and Sunday will be cloudy and cooler, with some rain showers expected, according to Weeronline.

Friday's afternoon temperatures of up to 25 degrees will start to cool down as afternoon turns into evening, thanks to a northwesterly wind. Overnight, cloud cover will spread across the country from the Wadden area, according to the weather service.

Sinterklaas will make his national arrival to the Netherlands in Apeldoorn this year, NTR and Apeldoorn mayor Petra van Wingerden-Boers announced on Friday.

The national arrival will happen on Saturday, November 16th. ​Sinterklaasjournaal, the kids' show that follows Sinterklaas' travels to the Netherlands, will start on Monday, November 11th.

Theresa May is stepping down as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and  leader of the Conservative Party. At a press conference on Friday, May said that her decision to resign was made with the country's best interests in mind. May will step down as leader of the Conservative Party on June 7th. She will continue as Prime Minister until the party chose her successor. It is now up to her successor to finalize the UK's departure from the European Union, she said.

Action group Kick Out Zwarte Piet filed a complaint for being listed as a terrorist group in the Netherlands' Terrorism Threat Assessment for the year 2017. But according to the national coordinator for counter-terrorism and security NCTV, this is a "misunderstanding" and the group is not seen as a terrorist organization, NU.nl reports.

A car went up in flames on Plaswijckweg in Gouda during the early hours of Friday morning. The Citroen was destroyed by the fire. This is the 19th car fire in the city since May 3rd.

The fire brigade responded to the scene at around 1:45 a.m., according to newspaper AD. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but the car could not be saved.

In the past month, a total of 19 cars went up in flames in various areas across Gouda. The police suspect arson in every one of these fires.

A police station in Tilburg was closed with immediate effect on Thursday after police officers working at the station fell ill two days in a row. Contaminated climate control filters are believed to be the culprit, NOS reports.

The station on Brucknerlaan was evacuated for some time on Wednesday after five police officers suddenly started feeling unwell. They reported smelling a strange odor. They were checked over by paramedics, but none of them had to go to hospital.

PVV leader Geert Wilders is disappointed by the exit polls results for the European Parliament elections. His anti-EU party received 4.1 percent of the votes, compared to 13.3 percent in the previous European elections. That means that his PVV will lose three of its four seats.

There was faltering support for the Netherlands to withdraw from the European Union, according to a survey of voters and non-voters in the Netherlands during the 2019 European Parliamentary elections. The poll, conducted by Ipsos for broadcaster NOS, also showed several nationalist issues falling out of favor with the Dutch public.

Voter turnout in the Netherlands was trending higher for the 2019 European Parliamentary elections in comparison to five years ago, with 41.2 percent of eligible voters casting a ballot on Thursday. In the last European elections, some 37.3 percent of voters went to the polls, according to exit polling by Ipsos and NOS.

This is still below the EU average of 42.6 percent voter turnout. Voter turnout in the Netherlands hovered around 37 percent in both 2010 and 2014.

The PvdA, Labour party in the Netherlands, was the big winner in the elections held in the Netherlands to determine the country's representation in the European Parliament, according to an exit poll by Ipsos for broadcaster NOS. With a European contingent headed by popular European Commissioner Frans Timmermans, the Labour party is expected to hold five seats of the 26 up for grabs on Thursday night. That would equate to an increase of two seats, with the exit poll carrying a two-percent margin of error equating to one seat in parliament.
