The Stichting Werkgroep Herkenning - the Foundation for Recognition - is calling on the Dutch government to apologize for the abuse of "kraut girls", or "moffenmeiden" as they are called in the Netherlands, after the Second World War. "Moffenmeiden" refers to women and girls who had any form of friendly relationship with German soldiers during the war.

The police found what they believe is a hand grenade at Bijlmerplein in Amsterdam during the early hours of Thursday morning. They responded to the scene around 4:00 a.m. after a report of shots being fired, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter.

On Bijlmerplein they found no injured person, but did find a possible grenade on the street. Defense's explosive disposal team is at the scene, NU.nl reports. The police are waiting for the team to finish its work before they can start a trace evidence investigation.

The public order and security department (OOV) of the municipality of Amsterdam doesn't have its own security in order. It is the only department in the municipality that scores a 1 on a scale from 1(very bad) to 5 (good) in an internal report, the Telegraaf reports based on documents received after appealing to the Open Government Act.

Snow is expected in the Alps this weekend and that is good news for the Rijn river, according to Weeronline. After the weekend the water level in the Rijn will not fall further, and may even rise a bit, the weather service expects.

The snow is expected in France, Switzerland, southern Germany and the northern parts of Austria. "A few dozen centimeters of snow are expected above 1,500 meters. Around 50 millimeters of precipitation will fall and that is good news for the water level in the Rijn", Weeronline writes.

The funeral for former Prime Minister Wim Kok will be held on Saturday, followed by a commemoration service in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw that same afternoon. Both services are for invited guests only, NU.nl reports.

Others who want to express their condolences can do so in an o. Letters and flowers are also welcome and can be sent to the funeral home.

The police released footage of a suspect fleeing the scene of a last week in which a 64-year-old man was critically injured. The police believe this was an attempted assassination in the criminal underworld and hope the public can help identify the perpetrator.

This case was discussed on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday.

The Amsterdam police found a hand grenade in front of an hotel on Korte van Eeghenstraat, near one of the entrances to Vondelpark, during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Ministry of Defense's explosive disposal department dismantled and removed the device, the police said in a statement.

A hotel employee heard a noise at the hotel's front door around 2:30 a.m., according to the police. When he went outside to check what was going on, he found the grenade.

An explosive was found at a business premises on Lemelerbergweg in Amsterdam Zuidoost during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The police can not yet say what type of explosive was involved, NU.nl reports.

Police officers responded to a report of an explosive on the street at around 3:00 a.m. At the scene the officers indeed found an explosive. Defense's explosive disposal service was called in to make sure the explosive wasn't going to blow up so that forensic investigators could do a trace evidence investigation at the scene.

Zamir M., the 31-year-old man suspected of in Utrecht on July 11th, said that he remembers little of the incident, the court noted during an introductory session in this case on Tuesday. M.'s lawyer Annemiek van Spanje refused to respond to the court's comment, NU.nl reports.

Primary school Het Kompas in Hoorn came up with an emergency plan to counter the growing teacher shortage. The school sent a letter to parents last week, asking them to fill in when teachers are sick so that kids do not have to be sent home, NH Nieuws reports.

This plan was made in preparation for the autumn period and flu season. Earlier this year the school had to send two classes home because no substitute teacher could be found. "We hold our hearts when someone gets sick", Jaap Muurling, director of Het Kompas, said to NH.

This year the value of office buildings in Amsterdam increased the most of all cities in the world. In the third quarter Amsterdam offices' value rose by 27.4 percent, according to a report by real estate advisor JLL that will be published in the coming weeks, Financieele Dagblad reports.

Office rents on the Zuidas, Amsterdam's business district, currently amount to about 400 euros per square meter.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima started their two-day state visit to the United Kingdom on Monday. On their first day the Dutch Royals had lunch with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham palace and visited the British parliament, NOS reports.

Shortly before being received at the palace, the Royal couple met with Dutch living in the UK and discussed the expats' concerns about the consequences of the Brexit - the United Kingdom leaving the European Union in March next year.

Former TV presenter Frank Masmeijer, suspected of trafficking cocaine through the port of Antwerp, was arrested in a hotel in Breda on Tuesday. According to Masmeijers' Dutch lawyer, Geert-Jan Knoops, Belgium recently issued an arrest warrant for his client in connection with the drug trafficking case, NU.nl reports.

The body of a man was found on Oosterstraat in the city of Groningen during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The police are investigating the man's identity and cause of death, and call on witnesses to come forward.

The body was reported to the police around 3:15 a.m. The area where the man was found was closed down as a crime scene, the Groningen police said on Twitter. 

"We do not yet know what happened and who it concerns. If you have information that may be of interest to us, please let us know", the police said.
