Morning rush hour is expected to be a doozy on Tuesday. The wet autumn weather is expected to cause many traffic jams, according to both Rijkswaterstaat and ANWB, RTL Nieuws reports.

Rijkswaterstaat expects a traffic jam peak of over 300 kilometers on the Dutch highways this morning. By 7:00 a.m. there were already 90 kilometers of traffic jams on the highway, the Public Works department reported.

A cyclist was killed by a falling tree on Hakvoortseweg in Hilvarenbeek on Monday afternoon, the police said in a statement.

The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. during pruning work, according to the police. The man was cycling by when a tree fell on him. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

The Inspectorate for Social Affairs and Employment was informed about the accident, the police said.

An hours long search for a missing boy on the IJsselmeer had a happy ending on Monday night. The 13-year-old from Urk was found alive and well on Houtribdijk near IJsselmeer, the Coast Guard said on Twitter.

The boy took a sloop onto the IJsselmeer from Urk early on Monday evening, according to NU.nl. When he did not return home, a large search involving a helicopter and multiple lifeboats from rescue organization KNRM was launched. The coast guard, a few fishing cutters, the fire brigade and the police also helped in the search.

A hurried mom left behind something very important at an Amersfoort station platform on Sunday - her two children. The mother entered the train helping a family member with their baggage, when the train suddenly departed. She quickly realized that her kids were still standing on the station platform.

A Dutch man was shot dead in the center of the Spanish resort of Torremolinos on Saturday evening. The victim is drug criminal Hamza Z., considered one of the main players in the drug war in Utrecht and surroundings, the Telegraaf reports.

The man was dining in a restaurant near the beach when a masked man entered the establishment and shot the Dutch man in the head and upper body. He died in hospital. The perpetrator fled in a white van. Witnesses told local media that the entire assassination took no more than two minutes.

Waterboard Rijn en IJssel will use pike to get rid of "illegal" goldfish in Arnhem's newly constructed city stream. City residents released the goldfish in the the stream because they found the new concrete waterway on the boring side, but as goldfish are exotics the waterboard is worried that they will supplant the native fish in the Rijn, ANP reports.

The waterboard is therefore now releasing pike into the Jansbeek, in the hope that the predators will eat the goldfish.

Over the weekend rescue organization for sea mammals EHBZ had to respond twice to dead seals washed up in the Netherlands. Both animals suffocated after getting trapped in plastic waste, the organization said on Facebook. 

One seal washed ashore at Ouddorp in Zuid-Holland. It had a plastic frisbee around its neck. The other seal was taken from the water at Brouwersdam. It was entangled in, and almost decapitated by, a fishing net.

Since May of this year, only 39 percent of transactions in the Netherlands were paid for with cash, compared to around 60 percent in 2014, according to new figures from Dutch central bank DNB and the Dutch Payments Association. DNB is concerned about the rapidly decreasing use of cash money. A cashless society is "vulnerable", DNB cash director Coen Voormeulen said to newspaper AD.

Two cyclists were killed in a collision with a drunk driver on the corner of Van De Spiegelstraat and Kloetingseweg in Goes early on Sunday morning. The motorist, a 19-year-old man from Kloetinge, was arrested shortly after the accident. A breathalyzer test showed that he was under the influence of alcohol, the police said in a statement.

Dutch universities are worried that the supply of lecturers in Artificial Intelligence will dry up - the vast majority of PhD graduates in this field are opting to enter the business world or teach at an American university, Financieele Dagblad reports.

American universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are increasingly given the opportunity to invest in AI. MIT recently announced a 1 billion dollar investment in a new AI center. Dutch universities can not compete with this financial strength.

Funeral home DELA took fingerprints of deceased people without the consent of their next of kin and then used the fingerprints for commercial purposes, consumer program Radar Radio revealed. DELA has now changed their policy and will for the time being only take fingerprints after explicit consent from relatives, a spokesperson said to NU.nl.

DELA started taking fingerprints on September 1st. Afterwards the funeral home approached the relatives with an offer of a personalized ring or necklace, that could cost hundreds of euros, according tor Radar Radio.

The police are looking for 16-year-old Danielle from Groningen. The teenage girl has been missing since Friday. She was last seen in Arnhem, according to the police.

Danielle is 1.8 meters tall with strawberry blonde hair and green-brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black sneakers, black skinny jeans and a black winter jacket with a hood.

The police call on anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward.
