Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security wants to eradicate child pornography on the internet. For that reason he is working on a new law under which internet companies who do not remove child porn at lightning speed, can face hefty fines, RTL Nieuws reports.

"It is certainly an enormous ambition, but I m going to do everything I can about it", the Justice Minister said. "I cannot guarantee an internet without child pornography, but I want to substantially reduce the share of child pornography on the internet in two years."

Taxi companies in Amsterdam are working with the municipality and the Amsterdam region's Discrimination Hotline to take measures to combat discrimination. This was prompted by an incident during Pride Amsterdam last year, when a taxi driver refused to give Pride ambassador Jennifer Hopelezz a ride. Police in Enschede arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of burglary after he was found in the middle of the night by a three-year-old boy. The boy awoke late Monday night to the sound of loud footsteps in the garden behind his house.

“He thought there were maybe animals or monsters there. However, it was a wild, strange man,” police said in a statement.

Authorities praised the boy for alerting his mother to the suspicious person. She saw he was carrying a television and an electric bike and quickly called emergency services.

The average free sector rent paid by tenants in the Netherlands now stands at 1 thousand euros per month. This is even higher in the four large Dutch cities, where tenants pay an average rent of 1,154 euros per month, Rabobank economists said in a report published on Wednesday, NU.nl reports.

This means that the national average rent is currently at the upper limit of 1 thousand euros for the middle segment. The middle segment is defined by homes with rents between 720 euros and 1 thousand euros per month.

By 2021, the Dutch government wants to begin phasing out the OV Chipkaart payment method used by public transportation operators for nearly a decade, the top deputy at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management wrote in a letter to parliament. New payment options will be meant to bring the options for local commuters inline with existing and future technologies commonly available to public transit users globally, Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven-van der Meer said.

Mayor Femke Halsema of Amsterdam is currently exploring various options for a new prostitution policy in the Red Light District. One of the options she is considering is closing all the window brothels in the area, NU.nl reports.

According to the mayor, the situation in the center of Amsterdam increasingly "dire" due to the continuing suspicions of human trafficking and the growth of unlicensed prostitution. "It forces us to put the prostitution policy on the agenda again", she said in a letter to the city council on Wednesday.

With its Dutch airports alone, the Schiphol Group is responsible for 13.6 million tons of CO2 emissions per year, according to a study by environmental research agency CE Delft on behalf of Greenpeace. Schiphol itself says it emits only 33 thousand tons of CO2, the Volkskrant reports.

According to CE Delft's calculations, Schiphol is responsible for almost 7 percent of all CO2 emissions in the Netherlands. For comparison, all passenger cars in the country account for 8.5 percent of Dutch emissions.

A man was stabbed on Plein '40-'45 in Amsterdam West on Tuesday. The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. A 33-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested shortly after the stabbing, the police said in a statement.

The police are struggling to identify a woman found naked and killed in a meadow in Westdorpe, a few meters away from the Belgian border, on June 22nd. Despite receiving and investigating 95 tips in this case, the police still don't know who the woman is. "Somebody has to miss her", the police said on Opsporing Verzocht on Teusday.

So far 218 of the 355 Dutch municipalities implemented a total ban on drug use in public space such as parks, streets and public buildings, by adding the ban to their General Local Regulations, NOS reports based on its own research.
