Over 60 percent of young people who received their vocational MBO diploma last year, are happy with the course they followed and the school they attended, according to Statistics Netherlands. The rest would make different choices if they could do it again.
In September 4.9 percent of the Dutch labor force were unemployed, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands and benefits agency UWV. This figure is the same as in August of this year, but lower than the 5.7 percent unemployment rate of September 2016.
The unemployment rate only includes unemployed people who want work and are available to start immediately. It does not include people who want to work, but aren't immediately available, or people with part time work who want to work more.
A total of 4,400 people applied for asylum in the Netherlands in the third quarter of this year, and 2,300 people joined family members that already have residency in the country, Statistics Netherlands reports. This is the first time since the third quarter of 2016 that the number of new asylum requests is higher than family reunification applications.

The number of insects in German natural areas dropped by over three quarters over the past 30 years, according to a study by ecologists at Radboud University in Nijmegen. According to the Dutch researchers, there is no reason to believe that insects in the Netherlands are doing any better than those in the German research areas, NOS reports.
State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Infrastructure and Environment is having the environmental impact assessment (MER) of Schiphol Airport re-examined, she announced in a letter sent to the airport and the Environmental Council, NOS reports. A police officer in Rotterdam turned to the College of Human Rights to fight the ban on police officers wearing a headscarf or hijab with their uniform. The woman argues that this is differential treatment based on religion, NU.nl reports.
The woman works mainly in an administrative post at the Rotterdam police. The police leadership allows her to wear her headscarf while doing administrative tasks, but she has to take it off when she has contact with the public in her uniform.
A 46-year-old man arrested after a 12-year-old girl was found dead in his car in Assen on Saturday, was remanded into custody for another 14 days on Wednesday. The man is officially suspected of murder or manslaughter, the Public Prosecutor announced on Twitter.
Two 23-year-old men were sentenced to six years in prison for selling hard drugs on the ark web. Thijs V. from Houten and Mike W. from Muiden were found guilty of selling at least 400 thousand euros of drugs, mostly MDMA, over a period of eight months, RTL Nieuws reports.
The two men hid the drugs in peanut butter bottles and greeting cards and then sent them by post to customers around the world. "They made every effort to carry out their trade in a refined manner", the court in Midden-Nederland said, according to the broadcaster.
A man suspected of assaulting a teenage girl at October fest in Sittard, was arrested after he went to a first aid post to get treatment for his hurt hand, RTL Nieuws reports.
The perpetrator and victim attended the festivities separately. At one point the 19-year-old man pushed the 17-year-old girl to the ground and kicked her in the head.
The girl and her friends went to the first aid post. While there, her attacker also showed up, asking that something be done about his hurt hand. The victim's friends recognized him and called the police.
Dutch soldiers picked up a BUK missile in Georgia early this year and brought it back to the Netherlands to use as evidence in the criminal investigation into the MH17 disaster, sources told RTL Nieuws. Employees of military intelligence service MIVD flew to Georgia on February 21st, and returned with the missile a day later. It was delivered to the Gilze-Rijen military airbase.
The world's first 3D printed bicycle bridge opened in Gemert, Noord-Brabant on Tuesday. It was built by the Eindhoven University of Technology and BAM Infra, NOS reports. "The bridge is not very big, but it all came out of a printer. That makes it unique", Theo Salet of TU Eindhoven said to the broadcaster.
NS and ProRail's experiment with running a train every 10 minutes on the route between Amsterdam, Utrecht, Den Bosch and Eindhoven, is showing very positive first results. The trains run mostly on time and cancellations are on par with the national average, ANP reports.
In a big mistake, the Dutch police put a picture of the wrong woman on a wanted list in March. The police apologized to the woman, and her picture was removed from all official channels, RTL Nieuws reports.
In the wanted post the police, called for information about the perpetrator of a so-called chat scam in Zaandam. A chat scam is when a perpetrator talks his or her way into your home and then steals from you. But the woman pictured in the wanted post, had absolutely nothing to do with the crime.
The police are searching in and around recreational lake Krabbeplas in Vlaardingen for evidence in the murder of 21-year-old Graciela Gomes Rodriquez. The young woman was found murdered in a ditch near the lake on September 23rd, the Telegraaf reports.
Hundreds of of foreign criminals are released early from Dutch prisons each year and deported from the country, the Ministry of Security and Justice confirmed to RTL Nieuws after reports in AD. In 2015 and 2016, 800 foreign prisoners got early release, and over 200 so far this year.
