Railway tracks pre-sprayed with water can prevent delay caused by falling leaves on the track, according to a report by the Telegraaf.

By pre-wetting the rails, leaves attach less to it, argues NS-driver Rene Slagter. Trains must drive slower in the fall to prevent bolting caused by the sticky leaves while braking. This results in too much time lost.

Tests show that Slagter is right: Leaves on wet rails dissolve in the water after a few trains have passed by.

District Zuidoost of the city of Amsterdam wants to get rid of drinking men hanging around on the streets. District Mayor Tjeerd Herrema announced that he wants to develop a program similar to programs for drug addicts to address alcohol abuse, together with the GGD, the Dutch municipal health organization for preventive healthcare.

Prince Willem-Alexander has known for about a year and a half that he is going to be crowned on April 30 of this year. 3FM DJ Gerard Ekdom says that he heard this directly from the Crown Prince during the “uitblinkers” lunch at Noordeinde Palace, according to a report by the NOS.

On Thursday employers, employees and the government closed a social agreement. Part of the agreement is that the extra austerity package of 4.3 billion for 2014 is abandoned. In the fall it will be decided if next year additional cuts in the budget are necessary. Prime Minister Rutte Thursday disclosed this during a joint press conference.

Besides  abandoning the austerity package, the agreement includes the WW, dismissal, the disabled, flexible employment, pensions and state pension deficiency.

On Thursday night, a 3-year-old toddler died after falling from the sixth floor. The accident took place at the Kikkenstein flat  in Amsterdan Southeast. An eyewitness says that a drunken man threw the child from the flat.

Chris Gorleku (19) was the first to arrive at the boy called Nana. A child of Ghanaian descent, he was still alive then but died later in the hospital. Two men (37 and 46 years old) and a woman (27 years old) were arrested.
