The province of Friesland has reserved 50 million euro for the renovation of the Thialf in Heerenveen. The provincial council of Friesland has made this decision on Wednesday afternoon.

The renovation of the Thialf is now a fact, regardless of the choice that the ice skating association, KNSB, will make in the battle for the new sports venue for ice skating in the Netherlands. If Thialf is not going to be designated as the top location than it 'complicates the operation, but it can still be done’, said a spokesman for the province.

The 47-year-old gunman who shot at three passers-by, from his home at the Pierre Kemp Street in Melick (Limburg) on Wednesday afternoon, was arrested by a SWAT team. The weapon he used was most probably an air gun. The man was transported handcuffed and blindfolded in a police car. During the raid by the SWAT team, shots were heard. The police, however, did  not confirm a shooting during the arrest.

A member of the SWAT team was slightly injured and was treated on the spot by paramedics.

A policeman who shot a colleague, in February, on the A50 at the junction Hattemerbroek, is therefore not prosecuted. The policeman saw a silhouette of a man with a gun drawn and thought this was the armed suspect.

Since there were other agents in the firing line of the silhouette, the cop thought that they were in immediate danger. So he aimed and shot, announced the Public Prosecutor (OM). The National Police investigated the shooting incident. The shot policeman was seriously injured.

Amsterdam has identified 2500 ghost citizens during a  2-year investigation of addresses. The investigation of the city also revealed welfare and benefits fraud. This is evident from a coverage on Monday from RTL News.

The municipality compared 58,000 addresses from the municipal administration and addresses of benefits agency UWV. The municipality says that the number of addresses where fraud was determined was rather small, but the fraud amount per address was considerable.
