Fireworks were thrown at a guide dog in Alkmaar this weekend. The dog fled from the bangs, resulting in his owner falling. The police are looking for witnesses, local cop Johan de Caluwe said on Twitter.

The incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in Rekerhout park near Thijssepad. The police are looking for two young men who were riding on a scooter with no license plate. 

The police call on the young men in question to turn themselves in and for any witnesses to come forward.

Netherlands residents may wake up to a beautiful purple glow in the sky on Christmas morning. Due to the bitter cold high in the air, pearlescent clouds may form, according to meteorologist Arjan Willemse, RTL Nieuws reports.

"Normally clouds are made of water vapor. Not these clouds. Pearlescent clouds consist of waste products: chlorides that are emitted by us humans. These chlorides are poorly degradable and clump together at extremely low temperatures, which in turn creates pearlescent clouds", Willemse said to the broadcaster.

A Dutch pre-teen is winning high praise around the Netherlands for racing around the country to play the piano in a fundraising effort. Bas Schipper set a record by playing all the pianos located at 16 different train stations in 18 hours and 10 minutes, breaking the previous record set by Ernesto Dennis by 75 minutes.

In doing so, he managed to raise €61,835 for diabetes research, as of Monday afternoon. The total far exceeded the goal the boy set.

A 40-year-old man in Arnhem was arrested on Saturday in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 12-year-old son, Bekiro. Police responded to the scene Saturday morning to find the distraught father, and promptly took him into custody. He was later transported to the Scheveningen prison hospital facility, according to newspaper Gelderlander.

The man's 15-year-old son fled the house, according to local media reports. The boys' mother reportedly lives in Germany.

Customs officers in the Netherlands found 70 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside the hold of a ship in Amsterdam harbor. The street value of the seized cocaine is €1.7 million, according to financial crimes investigation service FIOD.

So far, nobody was arrested in connection with the raid. The cargo ship arrived in the Netherlands from Brazil, and was carrying grain.

The packages of cocaine were found on December 16, but authorities only first revealed the bust on Monday. The drugs were later destroyed.

Six people were arrested after an explosion at an ATM rocked Roermond just after midnight on Monday morning. Six people were arrested, all aged between 21 and 27.

Those arrested were from Amsterdam, Roermond, and Sittard-Geleen. One person was taken into custody near the blast on Hoekstraat in the immediate aftermath. Five more men were taken into custody in the nearby Limburg town of Beek.

Four men were arrested in Amstelveen on Friday when police found five bags of cannabis and a block of cocaine hidden in secret compartments of two vehicles. Along with the drugs, police seized nearly 40,000 euros, 1,700 British pounds, 1,200 Swiss francs, 14 gemstones, five gold coins, a smaller quantity of cannabis, and a sex-toy with inlaid diamonds.

One person was trapped and injured in an accident with a cherry picker in a bicycle tunnel under the A12 highway in Duiven. Part of the concrete ceiling collapsed when the platform touched the ceiling, a spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Gelderland-Midden confirmed to NU.nl.

Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, responded to the scene. The operator of the cherry picker was freed and taken to the Radboud hospital in Nijmegen with injuries to his arm and head. The severity of his injuries is not yet known.

The police in Cardiff, Wales believe that one of their missing residents may be staying in Amsterdam. The Amsterdam police call on the public to keep an eye out for 38-year-old Jonathan Humphrey and contact them with any information.

Humphrey was reported missing on November 21st, but had not been seen for some time before that.

The Dutch coast guard is keeping an eye out for a sailing yacht that asked for help on the North Sea on Thursday night. After searching for the ship for hours and finding nothing on Thursday, the coast guard is no longer actively searching for the yacht, though they will keep a close eye out during the daily flight along the coast, NOS reports.

Twenty Dutch municipalities will receive a total of 7 million euros to strengthen their approach to fighting radicalization. Ministers Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security and Wouter Koolmees of Social Affairs divided the amount among municipalities who submitted plans to prevent radicalization and manage people who have been radicalized, the Telegraaf reports.

The largest amount, 1 million euros, is going to the municipality of The Hague. Utrecht is getting over 900 thousand euros, and Rotterdam over 850 thousand euros.

The court in Leeuwarden acquitted Friesland football club SC Twijzel in the case surrounding ain which a 10-year-old girl was killed and five other children were injured. The football club is not responsible for the girl's death and the other kids' injuries, the court ruled, NU.nl reports.
