Dozens of people were found hidden onboard a DFDS cargo ferry ship that had departed the Netherlands for England. They were discovered by the ship's crew Tuesday evening. Their physical condition was not known as of 8:10 p.m., but the ship's crew said they were all found alive, according to the Rijnmond regional safety agency.

Oliebollen stall De Wit Gebak from Eindhoven caused a social media commotion by posting a photo of a toddler and his father on its Facebook page, describing them as "Zwarte Piet". The owner, Piet de Wit, apologized and said they meant no harm. "I would like to get in touch with that man in the photo, to apologize", he said to Omroep Brabant.

Posters featuring anti-discrimination activist Jerry Afriyie as Zwarte Piet were plastered all over Den Haag late Friday night and early Saturday morning. The posters use a digitally-manipulated portrait of Afriyie, turning him into the racist caricature he has led a charge against for years.

Hundreds of posters were affixed along the parade route for the arrival of Sinterklaas in Den Haag. They were glued to storefronts and boats in the harbor, according to broadcaster Omroep West.

Qatar Airways is putting an end to its roughly 40-kilometer cargo flight route between Maastricht-Aachen Airport and the airport in Liège. With a flight time of about 9 minutes, the company had been trying to satisfy the needs of one specific client that required goods to be offloaded at Maastricht.

The controversial flight is served by Boeing 777-200LR, and is a stop along a flight path from Doha to Mexico City, and the return. To Mexico, the flight first lands in Maastricht, then Liège, and on to Mexico then Los Angeles.

A suspect accused of randomly stabbing four exercising women from a moving vehicle in separate incidents was convicted on Monday. Rene V., 24, was sentenced to six years in prison and additional mandatory treatment at a psychiatric facility.

A fireworks accident in Callantsoog led to the loss of one person’s hand. The incident took place on Saturday night in the Noord-Holland town.

An ambulance was dispatched to the intersection of Nijverheidsweg and Jeweldijk after friends of the victim heard a loud bang from a shed and found the victim covered in blood. When paramedics arrived they found the victim seriously injured after a firework that had been in his hands exploded.

A young woman from Amsterdam was contacted by escort agency Pandora in Den Bosch, offering her a job. The agency saw Chantal's Instagram account and thought she'd be perfect for the agency, the Telegraaf reports.

"We came across your profile on Instagram and are super enthusiastic about you", Bureau Pandora said to Chantal in a message. "Are you by any chance interested in a very, very well-paying side job? You seem to be a prefect candidate for the agency!"

A police officer had to give up an on-foot pursuit of a suspected robber in Rotterdam-Hillegersberg on Thursday night when both he and his dog got stuck in quicksand. Emergency services responded en masse to free the two, RTL Nieuws reports. 

The police officer and police dog were responding to a report of a robbery on Straatweg when they came a cross a swamp in the garden of the house. They sank into the quicksand and became stuck.

Three teenagers were convicted on Tuesday, accused of creating a fake social media profiles to request nude photos of students. The two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old were convicted of pretending to be a teacher, who later found the fake profile portraying him and reported it to authorities.

Online friends of Gerrit Jan van D. are shocked by the accusations that he kept his children trapped on a farm in Ruinerwold for nine years. They describe him as a nice man who was "good to his children" to newspaper AD. The Telegraaf found - now deleted - posts on Facebook and LinkedIn that indicate that son Jan visited Canada in 2015 and earlier this year, indicating that he maybe was not being held captive, according to the newspaper.

The 67-year-old father of six adult children kept concealed on a remote farm was ordered back into custody as the investigation into the case continues. The magistrate presiding over the case sent Gerritt Jan van D. back to jail for a 14-day period, which may be further extended at the court's discretion, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

In the past a school attendance officer from the municipality of Zwartewaterland investigated the family found living in complete isolation on a farm in Ruinerwold earlier this week. The truancy officer saw no reason to intervene at the time and concluded that te situation was "in order", mayor Eddy Bilder of Zwartwaterland said on Friday, De Stentor reports.

The family of Gerrit Jan van D., the father who was found living in a hidden room on a farm in Ruinerwold with six of his children, is dismayed by the events surrounding Van D., they said in a statement to RTL Nieuws. They haven't had contact with Van D. since the 1980s and had no idea what he was up to. "The father of G.J. is demented and stays in a closed institution."

He is suspected of depriving his six children of their physical freedom, and assault by harming the health of others, the Drenthe police announced.

Budget airline Transavia weighed the passengers of five flights from Eindhoven Airport on Friday in an experiment to improve its fuel calculations and reduce its CO2 emissions, Eindhoven Airport said on Twitter.

"Through a more precise determination of the weight on board, the fuel calculation can be performed even more accurately, with the goal of less CO2 emissions", the airport said. Participation in the experiment is voluntary.

An investigation into a grizzly report of a dead body wrapped in plastic garbage bags determined that the alleged corpse was actually a doll. Police responded to the underground garbage containers outside a nine-story apartment building on President Kennedylaan in Amsterdam Zuid at about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday where the "mortal remains" were found.

"Extensive research was then done on site, which turned out to be a doll."

Authorities investigating a report of a puppy being kicked to death for no apparent reason said the person who told the story made up the incident. The person walking the dog, a young boy with a developmental disability, pulled the leash too hard killing the animal, according to AD.

"Presumably an unfortunate coincidence led to the death of the dog," police said in a statement later on Tuesday.

A man from Slovakia ended up in a Rotterdam police station on Wednesday night, looking for help.  The man was on his way to visit his mother in the English town of Rotherham, but instead accidentally bought a ticket to Rotterdam, the police said on Twitter.

The traveler was accidentally sold a ticket to the second-largest city in the Netherlands because "both his articulation and topographical knowledge are not very good", the police said. The man showed up at the police station with no money, and also no ability to speak either Dutch or English.

A home in the Utrecht neighborhood of Lombok under which the police found a mysterious hidden tunnel system of some 18 meters long, was recently sold, the broker who handled the transaction said to the Telegraaf. According to the broker, the seller did not know about the secret passages and it is unclear whether the buyer does.
