The coalition parties in the Rutte III government reached broad agreements on the focus of the Netherlands' tax plans for next year. Low- and middle-income households must see an improvement in their purchasing power. And it must become easier for people starting out on the housing market to find a home, NOS reports.

The number of homeless people between the ages of 18 and 30 years tripled duirng this period, as has the number of homeless people with a non-Western migration background, Statistics Netherlands reported on Friday.

A man tried to blow up his home in Hoensbroek on Thursday night while emergency services were trying to talk him down. It is believed that he opened the gas. The man himself and a police officer were injured.

The police responded to the home on Prins Willemstraat in the Limburg town at around 9:15 p.m., after receiving a report that the man was threatening to blow up his house, the police said in a statement. As a precaution, the police and fire brigade evacuated the surrounding homes and cordoned off the area. The residents of around 15 homes were sheltered elsewhere.

A niqab-wearing woman was forced to leave a public bus operated by Arriva in Stein, Limburg on Monday. The bus driver in question called the police when the woman refused to leave the bus, the public transit firm confirmed to NU.nl and the Telegraaf.

The bus driver asked the woman to get off the bus and stopped the vehicle when she refused to do so, according to NU.nl. The police were called in and responding officers then escorted the woman off the bus. This was "not in accordance with the guidelines", an Arriva spokesperson said.

Rabobank is no longer taking professional football clubs as clients due to "raised to unacceptable risks of money laundering, corruption, fraud and other abuses", NRC reports based on an internal message the bank circulated this summer. Rabobank employees are also no longer allowed "to take on new managerial or supervisory positions" at professional football organizations due to a "potential conflict of interest", the message said.

Last year 24 percent of Dutch aged 25 years or older had sleeping problems. That amounts to approximately 2.9 million people who had trouble sleeping last year. In 2017 in was 21 percent, Statistics Netherlands reported on Tuesday.

People who identified themselves as unfit to work to the stats office were far more likely to have trouble sleeping than other groups. 58 percent of people with occupational disabilities had sleeping problems last year, compared to 19 percent of employed Dutch, 35 percent of unemployed Dutch, 32 percent of volunteers, and 23 percent of pensioners.

The police finally managed to track down the child's family when they took him for a ride and he recognized someone on the street, Het Parool reports.

A body was found in the North Sea some 30 miles away from the coast on Sunday night. The body washed up at a drilling platform. Rescue company KNRM was deployed to collect the remains, RTL Nieuws reports.

The police were informed about the discovery, and a police detective accompanied the KNRM crew to the platform.

So far nothing is known about the victim's identity or cause of death. According to NH Nieuws, the victim is not an employee of the drilling platform.

Sixteen people were injured in a serious traffic accident involving three passenger cars and a van on the N256 near Wilhelminadorp in Zeeland on Thursday afternoon. A few people were seriously injured, including one child, NU.nl reports.

The accident happened at around 3:45 p.m. According to Omroep Zeeland, at least one car had German license plates. A fire broke out in one of the involved cars, and a wounded passenger was trapped inside, the broadcaster writes.

A 10-year-old boy was stabbed and injured in a home on Trezoriersdreef in The Hague on Sunday afternoon. He was taken to hospital for treatment. His 48-year-old mother was arrested as a suspect. She too was injured and taken to hospital, the police said in a statement.
