Thomas Cook Group Plc declared bankruptcy early on Monday, and the company assured travelers that those using the Dutch branch of the travel agency would still be able to complete their holidays.

The 47-year-old Dutch man wanted in connection with the strangulation of a young Romanian girl killed himself in a car wreck on Monday. Police in the East-Brabant district of the Netherlands confirm to NL Times that the man suspected by Romanian authorities drove his car into oncoming traffic, striking a lorry in a head-on collision.

Six young people were hospitalized on Sunday evening after they used ecstasy at youth care institution De La Salle in Boxtel. "One of them is in bad shape", the Oost-Brabant police said on Twitter.

Ambulances were deployed to the youth care institution at around 7:30 p.m. when the first of the group of young people became unwell. They were rushed to a hospital in the area. The police are investigating where they got the drugs.

A Dutch man may be a suspect in the abduction and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Romania. The girl, Mihaela Fieraru, did not come home from school on Friday. Her body was found on Sunday, in a field a few kilometers from her hometown of Gura Sutii, NOS and NU.nl report.

The Romanian police have not confirmed the suspect's nationality, but Romanian media report that he's Dutch based on an unofficial statement from a police officer.

A special anti-drug unit, based on the American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will be established in the Netherlands, Justice Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus announced on Thursday after the murder of defense lawyer Derk Wiersum in Amsterdam. "We must continue to use the means of key witnesses, otherwise we will get no further in criminal cases. Continue in a motivated way", prosecutor Fred Westerbeke said to Nieuwsuur. He wants more options in the use of such suspects-turned-informants.

An explosive was found on De Markt in Veenendaal early on Thursday morning. The police closed down the area for investigation, the Utrecht police said on Twitter.

The suspicious item was spotted at around 4:00 a.m. Explosive experts were called in to examine it and determined that it was indeed an explosive.

The Ministry of Defense's explosive disposal department is currently working on safely removing the explosive from site.

Shots rang out on the Langbroekdreef in Amsterdam Zuidoost on Wednesday night, striking one person. The victim later died of their injuries, police said.

Authorities confirmed that a vehicle was shot at by two suspects who were sitting on a scooter at the time. They then fled the scene on the two-wheeler. After the gunshots, the car crashed into the front of a nearby firehouse.

A man was shot and killed in Buitenveldert in Amsterdam on Wednesday morning. Het Parool and De Telegraaf identify the victim as Derk Wiersum, the lawyer that represented key witness Nabil B. A police officer confirmed this in an interview with AT5, adding that the 44-year-old lawyer lived on Imstenrade where the shooting happened.

The Amsterdam police arrested 303 supporters of French football club Lille OSC at the Strandvliet subway station in Amsterdam on Tuesday for disrupting public order. The large group of football fans lit fireworks, used violence and walked on the subway tracks. By Tuesday night, eight of them were still in custody, the police said on Twitter.

The Dutch economy is strong and the outlook for next year remains positive, but risks are looming from abroad, Dutch King Willem-Alexander said in his Budget Day speech for 2019. 

"A strong economy is needed to further build on a strong Netherlands", King Willem-Alexander started his speech on Tuesday. The outlook for next year remains, positive, but the reality is that the growth will level out in the coming years. "Our economy is sensitive to international developments such as trade wars and the Brexit", the King warned.

The partner of Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema was formally questioned in connection with the ownership of a deactivated German revolver, according to newspapers Telegraaf and AD. Robert Oey was considered a crime suspect for the purpose of the interview, a spokesperson told the Telegraaf.

Two boys, aged 6 and 9, were killed in a house fire in Strijbeek, Noord-Brabant, during the early hours of Sunday morning. Two adults were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the police found no indication of a crime or negligence, a police spokesperson said to RTL Nieuws.

Two boys and a girl were injured in a stabbing incident in Breda on Sunday night. One of the boys was injured to such an extent that he was rushed to a hospital in Rotterdam. The other two victims were taken to a hospital in Breda. The suspect fled the scene, but thanks to many tips, a 30-year-old man from Breda was later arrested, the police said in a statement on Monday morning.

A car crashed into the audience at the autorcross in Leende in Noord-Brabant on Sunday. Two men, a woman and a boy were injured to such an extent that they were hospitalized. Three other people were checked over by paramedics at the scene. The police arrested the driver, a 21-year-old man from Reuver, and his passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Veughel.

The body of former Philips East Africa boss Tob Cohen was found in a septic tank next to the Kitisuru, Kenya villa where he resided, authorities in Kenya confirmed. Cohen had been missing for 60 days, amid a contentious divorce with his wife, Wairimu "Sarah" Kamotho.

She was arrested late last month in connection with his disappearance. A friend of her's was taken into custody this week and reportedly confessed early on Friday, leading to the body's discovery.
