Amsterdam and Rotterdam saw a major increase in the number of minors involved in incidents with weapons over the past years. The number of stabbings in Rotterdam involving underage victims and suspects doubled last year. And the number of underage suspects in weapon incidents in Amsterdam increased by 50 percent since 2017, NOS reports based on figures from the local police stations.

Another 121 people in the Netherlands tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total Covid-19 diagnoses in the country up to 503, public health institute RIVM said on Wednesday. A 68-year-old person became the fifth Covid-19 fatality in the Netherlands. This patient had underlying health problems, the RIVM said.

More and more people in the Netherlands do not drink alcohol at all or at most one glass per day, thereby complying with the Health Council guideline on alcohol use. Women and older people are most likely to comply with this guideline, according to the Lifestyle Monitor by Statistics Netherlands in collaboration with public health institute RIVM and the Trimbos Institute.

The national association for the hospitality industry in the Netherlands KHN is concerned about the impact the coronavirus Covid-19 is having. The number of cancellations is increasing nationwide, and the occupancy rate of hotels is falling. "There is no panic in the hotel industry, but there are hot pockets: Noord-Brabant, Rotterdam and Amsterdam are having a harder time," KHN director Dirk Beljaarts said to NOS.

As the spread of coronavirus worsened throughout the province of Noord-Brabant, the major cities in the province agreed to suspend all events where thousands of visitors were expected to attend. The move includes all upcoming professional football matches, the mayors of Den Bosch, Eindhoven and Tilburg said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Tilburg Mayor Theo Weterings emphatically said that people should refrain from social interactions for the next week to help contain the virus. "Seven days of social abstention must be possible," Weterings said.

The number of patients in the Netherlands who tested positive for the Covid-19 strain of coronavirus rose to 382, including four people who died. The most recent person to die with the virus was a 78-year-old who had a weakened immune system. Health agency RIVM said 161 of all patients who tested positive were infected abroad, and 156 cases were still under investigation.

Over half of the 61 new patients reside in the province of Noord-Brabant, bringing the total there to 157.

As the spread of coronavirus continued throughout the Netherlands, Prime Minister Mark Rutte implored people in the country to stop shaking hands. He made the statement, along with new advice to Noord-Brabant residents to work from home whenever possible, hours after the country's top health agency released statistics that showed that there have been 321 positive tests and the patients live in 100 different municipalities.

The number of new patients diagnosed with coronavirus rose by 56 to 321 on Monday. Though the 21 percent increase demonstrated a slower spread than recent days, it did show another dramatic increase in the province of Noord-Brabant.

The southern province is now home to 134 cases, meaning that 75 percent of new positive tests came from residents of that province. Although Utrecht is still the province with the second highest total number of cases, there were no new patients recorded in Utrecht since Sunday afternoon.

If the new coronavirus Covid-19 turns into a global pandemic, economists at Rabobank foresee an economic recession in large parts of the world, including the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Italy, and the United States. KLM put a red line through twelve of its departures to Italy due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country. The Dutch airline will still fly to infected areas, but at a lower frequency, eliminating at least 25 percent of its flights to Italy this week through March 15th.

There was a massive jump in positive coronavirus tests since Saturday afternoon among people living in Breda, according to statistics provided by health agency RIVM. The city is now home to 16 people with the new strain of the virus, out of 90 across the Noord-Brabant province.

Breda is now the city in the Netherlands with the most positive cases, followed by Rotterdam with 14, Houten and Utrecht with 13 each, and Tilburg with 12. There were six people being treated in Amsterdam and Eindhoven.

Two patients diagnosed separately with coronavirus in the Netherlands died in their hospital beds this weekend, health agency RIVM confirmed. In the past 24 hours, another 77 have tested positive for the Covid-19 strain of the virus making the country's total number of patients 265, a 41 percent increase.

The patients who passed away include an 86-year-old man who was being treated at the Bernhoven Hospital in Uden, and an 82-year-old man at the Zuyderland Medical Center in Sittard-Geleen. "The source of these patients' infection is under investigation," the RIVM stated.​

Russians Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinskiy, Oleg Pulatov, and Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko are suspected of playing crucial roles in delivering the missile system that shot down MH17​.

All residents of the Noord-Brabant province were advised to stay home if they have symptoms of a cold, a cough, or a fever, health agency RIVM said on Friday. The warning came after it emerged that the province is the hardest hit of the Netherlands, with 34 of the country's 128 positive coronavirus cases residing in municipalities there, an NL Times analysis of RIVM statistics shows.

Friday saw another hike in the number of Covid-19 diagnoses in the Netherlands, as well as the country's first death caused by the coronavirus. According to public health institute RIVM, there are currently 128 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Netherlands, up from 82 on Thursday.
