The Public Prosecution Service will take harsh action against misbehavior and misconduct during New Year's. The Prosecutor considers New Year's as an event, which means that sentence demands can be 75 percent higher, the Telegraaf reports.

People caught being aggressive or violent towards police officers, firefighters or paramedics could face sentences up to 200 percent, the Prosecutor said. First responders keep the Netherlands safe and they must be able to do their jobs without interference, according to the Public Prosecutor.

Ten gunshots were fired at a home on Egelantierstraat in Rotterdam during the early hours of Thursday morning. The occupant and her three sons were sleeping in the house at the time, AD reports.

"I was already sleeping when I suddenly heard bangs", the 23-year-old son said to the newspaper. His two younger brothers, aged 21 and 14, were already in bed when the shooting happened. His mother was also in her bedroom.

A 16-year-old girl reported to the police that the man suspected of killing her was threatening her. Humeyra Oz went to the police with a photo 31-year-old Bekir E. sent her, showing the man posing with two firearms, sources around the investigation told the Telegraaf.

The Dutch Health Council wants the government to add the vaccination of 14-year-olds against Meningococcus C and W to the National Vaccination Program. The vaccination of 14 month old toddlers against the bacteria is already part of the national program, but the Health Council thinks that also vaccinating teenagers will add to group immunity, RTL Nieuws reports.

The vast majority of Dutch are for scrapping daylight savings time, according to a survey among over 1,800 Dutch ordered by Minister Kasja Ollongren of Home Affairs and Kingdom relations. 41 percent want to keep winter time all year, approximately a quarter want summer time to be the standard time, and another quarter want to stick to the current system of adjusting the clock twice a year, NOS reports.

A 31-year-old man arrested for shooting and killing a 16-year-old girl at a school in Rotterdam on Tuesday, has a criminal record. He was convicted last year and is currently on probation. A spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor could not say for what crime exactly the man was convicted, RTL Nieuws reports.

The young victim's name was Humeyra Öz, according to newspaper AD. NOS identifies the suspect as Bekir E.

A shooting at a Rotterdam school left a 16-year-old girl dead, according to police. The shooting took place on Essenburgstraat. Emergency services were called to the street and also Beukelsdijk at about 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said the victim knew her assailant, a 31-year-old Rotterdam man, who was arrested in the immediate aftermath. He was taken into custody nearby on Bergselaan.

Authorities did not disclose how the suspect and victim are connected.

The police found the body of a missing traffic controller in the Hollandse Ijssel near Capelle aan den IJssel during the early hours of Tuesday morning. The 51-year-old man from Rotterdam disappeared around 2:00 p.m. on Monday after he tried to rescue a motorist who crashed into the river, NU.nl reports.

A car drove off the embankment on Groenedijk on Monday afternoon and ended up in the river. The traffic controller, who was at the scene due to roadworks, immediately went into the water to try and save the motorist. But he disappeared.

An underage boy was stabbed at the train station in Dieren on Monday afternoon. He was rushed to hospital in serious condition. Another underage boy was arrested, the Rheden police said on Twitter.

The stabbing happened at around 12:45 p.m. at the station's bus stop.. A spokesperson for the police told De Gelderlander that the victim was taken to the Radboud hospital in Nijmegen and is now in a stable condition. 

Exactly what happened, is not yet clear. The police are investigating and already spoke to multiple witnesses.

Multiple shots were fired at a home on Johan van de Veldestraat in Den Bosch during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Multiple residents were home at the time, but no one was injured, the Oost-Brabant police said on Twitter.

The shooting happened at around 1:00 a.m. The residents called the police. At least four bullet holes can be seen in one of the house's windows, according to Omroep Brabant.

According to Brabants Dagblad, a family with several teenagers lives in the home. Local residents told the newspaper that the shooter fled on a scooter or in a car.

Flight traffic at Eindhoven Airport was halted on Sunday due to fog. This resulted in some 900 travelers being stuck at the airport. The airport asked the Red Cross to place 500 camping cots at the terminal, ANP reports.

Not all the beds were occupied. A number of travelers were able to go home, to family or to a hotel. Food and drinks were organized for those who ended up spending the night at the airport.

Whether the flights canceled on Sunday will all be made up on Monday, is not yet clear. At this stage Eindhoven Airport does not report any cancellations or delays.

GroenLinks wants ecstasy to be removed from criminal hands by having the government regulate the drug's production, parliamentarian Kathalijne Buitenweg said to the Volkskrant.

Part of Schiphol airport was evacuated for a short time on Thursday evening after a man threatened bystanders with a knife. He also shouted that there was "something" in his bag. The Koninklijke Marechaussee arrested the man.

A video recorded by a bystander shows Marechaussee officers overpower the man and work him to the floor. The Koninklijke Marchaussee is a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military and is responsible for border security, including at airports.

A man was shot on Hoekenes in Amsterdam's Osdorp on Wednesday evening. The injured man was taken to hospital, the police said on Twitter.

The shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. near Osdorper Ban, according to Het Parool. The police closed down the street for investigation.

A witness told AT5 that he heard a bang and the victim screaming in pain. "I'm dying!" the victim screamed, according to the witness. Other witnesses told the Amsterdam broadcaster that there were three perpetrators involved, though the police could not confirm this.

A 21-year-old woman was stabbed in her home on Kerklaan in the Rotterdam district of Kralingen on Wednesday afternoon. She succumbed to her injuries a short time later. The police responded to the home after reports of a fight.

Officers arrived at the home at around 12:30 p.m. and found the injured woman inside, the police said in a statement. They tried to resuscitate her, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene.

A body was found on the A73 highway near Odiliënberg during the early hours of Thursday morning. In a nearby corn field, the police found a car with a seriously injured person inside. What happened is not yet clear, AD reports.

The police responded to the highway at around 00:30 a.m. after a report of something lying in the road. It turned out to be a deceased person. While checking the surrounding area, officers encountered the car with the injured person. The victim was rushed to hospital by helicopter. 

The police are investigating what happened.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte reacted in horror to reports of a shooting at a Christmas market in the French city of Strasbourg on Tuesday evening. At least three people were killed and 12 injured, six of whom are in a serious condition, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner confirmed, BBC reports.

"Horrible reports about the shooting in Strasbourg", the Dutch Prime Minister said on Twitter. "My thoughts are with the victims and their next of kin. I have conveyed my condolences to President Emmanuel Macron."
