The Surinamese government is not satisfied with a letter of apology that Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs sent after he called Suriname a 'failed state'. Blok's Surinamese counterpart Yldiz Pollack-Beighle calls Blok's apologies "poor" because he "does not take back the inaccuracies he voiced at a closed meeting", NOS reports.

Anouk van Luijk has been missing on Cuba for several days. The 19-year-old woman from Hellevoetsluis was supposed to fly back to the Netherlands on Saturday, but never showed up for her flight. Her family hasn't heard from her since Saturday, her father Wim van Luijk said in , that has since been shared nearly 8 thousand times.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima released a statement expressing "enormous sympathy" to those affected by forest fires raging in Greece. So far the fires claimed 60 lives and left some 150 people injured. Whether any Dutch are among the victims is not yet clear, RTL Nieuws reports.

"The raging forest fires in Greece have claimed many victims. We feel enormous sympathy for the victims, their families and those who do not yet know the fate of their loved ones. We share their pain and our thoughts are with them", the Dutch Royals said.

The Italian police believe that 17-year-old Koen van Keulen from Soest died in a fatal accident at Lake Garda. His family saw camera footage that confirm this conclusion, a spokesperson for the family said to RTL Nieuws.

Over 200 officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a letter calling on Minister Stef Blok to increase diversity in the department. According to them, the Ministry is lagging behind with the acceptance of people with a bicultural background. They want to discuss promoting diversity with the Minister, NOS reports.

Two men were arrested in Rotterdam on June 17th on suspicion of planning attacks in the Netherlands and France, the Public Prosecutor announced on Monday. The suspects are 22 and 27 years old, and both of Moroccan nationality. They were arrested based on information from intelligence agency AIVD, the Prosecutor said.

The Netherlands is considering giving shelter to a "limited number" of Syrian aid group the White Helmets, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice and Security said to RTL Nieuws. "Important conditions for this are identification, registration and (security) screening."

A young woman was attacked and raped in front of her home on Herman Bavinckstraat in Rotterdam on Saturday morning. She was rushed to hospital, where she underwent surgery and is currently still in intensive care. So far the police were unable to extensively talk to her. The police are looking for a dark-skinned man of around 20. He was wearing a dark colored hoodie and cycling on a dark colored bicycle.

A 17-year-old boy from Soest disappeared in Italy during the early hours of Friday morning. The local authorities and some 200 volunteers searched for Koen van Keulen the whole weekend, but so far to no avail. On Sunday evening search dogs from the Netherlands joined the search, NOS reports.

The island's government "deeply regrets" the statements, because as foreign minister Blok also speaks on behalf of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The Surinamese government would like Blok to apologize for his statements.

A man stabbed himself in the middle of the street in Watergraafsmeer in Amsterdam on Thursday morning. He was taken to hospital, AT5 reports.

The incident happened around 10:00 a.m. Multiple police cars and ambulances responded to the scene, as the man's intentions were unclear, according to the broadcaster.

The man did not harm, or try to harm, anyone else. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The supply of water to the Rijn river that enters at Spijk Nederland dropped below the minimum limit for the month of July, the national coordination committee for water distribution LCW announced. The LCW therefore issued a code yellow, which means that a water shortage may be imminent. The low water level may lead to measures, though what measures exactly is not yet clear, the LCW said, NU.nl reports.

An elderly couple were locked into the basement when robbers forced their way into their home in Susteren during the early hours of Monday morning. Zischa Vergooszen (77) managed to open the wooden cellar door by hacking at it for hours with a small knife, while her husband Gerard (82) lay seriously injured on the floor. Their family offered a reward of 5 thousand euros for the tip that leads to the robbers' arrest, 1Limburg reports.

A 4-year-old girl drowned in Waddinxveen on Tuesday evening. She was found in a ditch on Vondellaan at around 8:30 p.m., according to the police.

Bystanders took the girl out of the water and tried to resuscitate her. Emergency services took over from them. "Despite the live-saving actions, the girl died at the scene", the police said. 

The police are investigating how the girl ended up in the water. Bystanders were offered victim support.

Michael P. was convicted of raping and murdering 25-year-old from Utrecht. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison on Tuesday, with compulsary institutionalized psychiatric treatment. He also has to pay Anne's family 56 thousand euros in compensation. The sentence is , NOS reports.

Amsterdam fire department commander Leen Schaap received death threats from members of his own corps. He reported at least two threats to the police in February and March this year. The Public Prosecutor is investigating the death threats, a spokesperson confirmed to newspaper AD.
