Since the previous risk assessment in 2012, safety office Veiligheidsregio Amsterdam-Amstelland dropped a number of older concerns to make room for new risks like the consequences of a terrorist attacks, increasingly dangerous storms due to climate change and the internet falling out due to a cyber attack, Het Parool reports.

American company Hyperloop One plans to have the first Hyperloop connections up and running by 2021. The company is considering dozens of routes fr the high-speed transport system worldwide, including in the Netherlands, Het Parool reports.
On Tuesday the company presented nine possible European routes in Amsterdam. The routes were devised by the semi-finalists of a route competition the company had. The Netherlands route includes Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Arnhem and Lelystad.
From Tuesday KLM passengers world wide can request and receive their booking confirmation, check-in information, boarding pass and flight status on Twitter and WeChat. From now on all passengers booking a flight through the airline's website, can choose to receive their information via the two social media platforms, the airline announced, according to NU.nl.
The service launches today and will become more and more widely available in the coming weeks.
Dutch Hyperloop startup HARDT opened its own test facility in Delft on Thursday. Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen of Infrastructure and Environment unveiled the Hyperloop test tube, the first of its kind in Europe. And while this structure is intended to test Hyperloop facilities at lower speeds, the 30 meter long tube could pave the way for transport at speeds over 1 thousand kilometers per hour, partner BAM said in a press release.
A new consortium of six Dutch cyber security companies promised to not be taken over by foreign parties in order to best protect the cyber-side of important Dutch infrastructure. They feel that Dutch national interests and state secrets are best protected by Dutch companies. With this strategy the cyber security companies are taking advantage of controversy that arose when Fox IT was bought by a British investor in 2015, Financieele Dagblad reports.
A third of Dutch kids are annoyed by their parents' smartphone usage, especially in the car and at the dinner table. As many as 38 percent say that their parents don't always respond when they ask them to put the smartphone down, according to a study by Nationale Academie among 1,849 kids between the ages of 13 and 18 years, RTL Nieuws reports.
Almost a quarter of parents use their phones at the dinner table on a regular basis, according to the kids. The young people feel that they should be more important than their parents' "virtual contacts", they said in the survey.
Police across the Netherlands are still struggling with their vehicles' navigation system, according to a letter from Amsterdam police chief Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg which AD has in its possession. Many police cars can't be used because the navigation system often fails and contact with the control room is impossible through it. ABN Amro banned the use streaming services Netflix, Spotify and Deezer on company laptops after binge-watching employees nearly crippled the bank's online services, Financieele Dagblad reports based on an internal memo from the bank's IT department.
The streaming service used so much of the bank's network capacity that customer services were compromised. According to the memo, a full 15 percent of the network capacity went to watching Netflix show House of Cards and streaming the new Kendrick Lamar album.
The modified version of Blackboard software used by the University of Amsterdam contains major security vulnerabilities that can easily be exploited by cyber attackers, according to two students at the university who researched this as part of their studies, NU.nl reports.
According to students Bram ter Borch and Auke Zwaan, they shared these vulnerabilities with the university's IT department in May last year, but the department did not do enough to fix the problems. So the students decided to make their findings public.
Vodafone and KPN customers can now use their Android phones to pay for public transport in the Netherlands. This new way of payment was launched across the Netherlands on Monday, after years of cooperation between public transit companies, KPN, Vodafone and the public transport card maker Translink, NU.nl reports.
From today Amsterdam police officers will be equipped with bodycams in a test run that will last two years. Every police officer in the so-called base teams will be allowed to wear a bodycam during his or her shift. The intention is to see if bodycams reduce the number of violent incidents, but many are concerned about the privacy implications, RTL Nieuws reports.
Previous bodycam studies showed that people who know they are being recorded, are less likely to use violence. This test in the Amsterdam police is intended to see whether this really is the case.

The United States' plan to ban laptops and tablets on flights to America is unsafe, according Dutch pilots association VNV. If the U.S. has its way, laptops and tablets will only be allowed in the cargo area of a plane. But according to the VNV, this forms a great danger of lithium batteries catching fire. "We will start the cleanup early next year", the 22-year-old inventor and environmental activist said. "Within five years we will have cleaned up 50 percent of the plastic waste.", ANP reports.
