With the Winter Olympics starting on Friday, top Dutch athletes are heading to South Korea to participate. When they get there, their accommodations in Gangneung will be ready and waiting for them.

During the Olympics, from February 9th to 23rd, the Dutch team will share luxury accommodations with athletes from Great Britain in tower 806. Take a peek inside the athletes' digs in the video below.

Amsterdam chef Piet Brink flew to South Korea on Tuesday evening to make bitterballen during the Winter Olympics. He will make a total of around 22 thousand of the deep fried Dutch snacks, to serve at the Holland Heineken House every day of the Games. "I'll work around 10 hours every day", he said to Het Parool.

Footballer Robin van Persie may return to the Dutch national team under . Koeman is keeping the possibility open, he said to broadcaster NOS.

"If he shows the necessary fitness and shows that he is still one of the best... Then who am I not to select him. Age does not matter, what matters is what they show", Koeman said.

Ronald Koeman will be signing a contract next week to coach the Dutch national football team up to and including the World Cup of 2022, the Telegraaf reports. The former Barca player reached an agreement with football association KNVB and will sign his contract next Friday. His performance will be evaluated before or after the European Championships in 2020, according to the newspaper.

Koeman confirmed last week that he is in talks with the KNVB. It is expected that he will start coaching Oranje in March already.

Do not bring any drugs into Korea, Dutch ambassador in Seoul Lody Embrechts warns sports fans attending the Winter Olympics starting in the Asian country next week. "The controls are strict and the punishments are severe. Really don't do that", he said in an interview with the Telegraaf. Other than that, he advises Dutch Olympics fans to be prepared for the cold weather and respect the local culture.

A staff member of a sports center in Lochem died and a colleague was injured when they were trapped inside a sea container. The box was used to store compressed wood biomass pellets for the swimming pool heating system there.

Emergency rescue crews responded to De Beemd in Lochem. Firefighters broke open the container and rescued the two unwell workers.

For one of the workers the assistance came too late. His colleague is now recovering in the hospital. The identity of the victims is still unknown.

At long last, fans of Rotterdam's most famous football team have a new way of replacing their fire extinguishers manufactured by Dutch firm Ajax. The Feyenoord football club has given permission for its name and red-and-white color scheme to be used as branding on new pieces of firefighting gear to take the spot of those proudly bearing the Ajax name.

Ajax, now owned by Chubb, has produced fire extinguishers in Amsterdam for over 100 years. Of course it also happens to share the brand name with Amsterdam's top football club, the arch-rival of Feyenoord.

​Camile Eurlings is stepping down as Dutch Member of the International Olympics Committee. The former cabinet minister and ex-CEO of KLM is leaving the IOC because of allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend in 2015.

He made his decision public with an announcement on Friday afternoon, according multiple publications.

Dutch-American skater Carlijn Schoutens will be taking part in the Olympic Games on behalf of the United States. The 23-year-old skater placed with a 3 thousand meters winning time of 4.14,03 in Milwaukee on Tuesday, NU.nl reports.

Schoutens was born in the U.S., but moved to the Netherlands at a young age. She's skated for the Netherlands several times since, but decided to skate under the American flag since the 2014/2015 season.

"This has been a goal for me for a long time. The fact that I achieved it is incredible" Schouten said on Tuesday.

Dutch trucker Gerard de Rooy had a good start to the ECO Africa Race in Morocco. Despite rocks being thrown through his side window shortly before the finish line, he was still the first trucker to finish, Omroep Brabant reports.

"At ten, fifteen kilometers before the finish there was a group of stone throwers. We got a stone through the side window", De Rooy said to the broadcaster. Fortunately nobody was injured. Some others got stones through the windshield."

Camiel Eurlings will make a statement about allegations of him abusing his girlfriend in 2015 at the explicit request of Dutch Olympic committee NOC*NSF. The committee, of which Eurlings is a board member, wants him to make a "public confession", NU.nl reports.

The NOC*NSF hopes that this will help restore calm. "He is still damaging the sport", an anonymous board member said to the Volkskrant. Another board member added that calm can not be restored without effort. "And we are after all the face of Dutch sport. It is up to us to do something."

Amsterdam missed out on the chance to host the opening match of the UEFA Euro 2020, but the Dutch capital will play host to several Group C and Round of 16 matches during the European football championship. Bucharest, Romania was also named host of Group C matches, and it will also serve as a quarter-final location.

Rome's OIympic Stadium was selected by the European football federation as the site for the opening match. The Italian stadium is also a quarter-final site. The semi-finals and final of UEFA Euro 2020 will be held at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

A 40-year-old player for football club Victoria '03 from Oudenbosch was arrested for kicking a player for football club DSE in the head during a match between the two teams in Etten-Leur on Sunday. The victim was taken to hospital, Omroep Brabant reports.

The DSE player's condition is stable, a board member of the club said to the broadcaster.

Dick Advocaat resigned as coach of Dutch national football team Oranje, he announced after Oranje won a match against Romania 0-3 on Tuesday.  He already decided that he would step down if the Netherlands , he said, according to RTL Nieuws. "The main reason I'm leaving is that I find it time for another generation. The younger people must take over at Oranje."

Heineken is interested in sponsoring a Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix, but only if a proper financial feasibility is done and a good financial plan is in place, Hans Erik Tuijt, responsible for Heineken's Formula 1 sponsorship, said to BNR. "It must be financially feasible. People must want it", Tuijt said.

Former Ajax and Vitesse footballer Abubakari Yakubu passed away at the age of 35 in a hospital in his native country of Ghana on Tuesday, NOS reports. The cause of his death is not yet clear.

Yakubu played for Ajax between 1999 and 2004. The defender also played five seasons with Vitesse, and took the field for the Ghana national team 16 times between 2002 and 2006.

Lawyer Jan Willem Koeleman from Utrecht died while participating in a triathlon in Italy on Sunday morning. The 54-year-old man became unwell during the swimming leg of the race and drowned, the Telegraaf reports.

Koeleman took part in the half-triathlon of the Forte Village Challenge in southern Sardinia. This involved 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling and 21 kilometers of running, according to the newspaper.

A casting call for Dutch radio station Radio 538's upcoming Winter Olympics coverage has caused anger among many members of the Dutch-Asian community. The job posting is seen by some as specifically promoting an antiquated caricature as it identifies the need for a Korean man who "is instantly recognizable as Korean", and able to speak "defective" Dutch and English. Whoever is hired for the role will be the face of Radio 538's broadcasts on the Olympics, taking place next February in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Lieke Martens was named female football player of the year at the FIFA Gala on Monday. And coach Sarina Wiegman won the title of best coach of a women's team. The two women, and the rest of the Oranje Lionesses, over the summer. The Dutch women were not at the award ceremony in London, because they are preparing for the World Cup qualifier against Norway in Groningen on Tuesday, NU.nl reports.

Despite a win against Sweden on Tuesday, the Dutch national football team will not go through to the World Cup in Russia next year. Oranje beat Sweden 2-0, but a win of 7-0 was needed for the Dutch team to place in the playoffs for the World Cup, RTL Nieuws reports.
